Question about APC Back-UPS Pro 1100 (BP1100) UPS System

BP1100 Overloads with no appliances connected

    I have a 4-yr old BackUPS Pro BP1100 which recently indicated battery replacement needed. I ordered the two batteries and replaced them. Now when I power the unit on to charge the batteries, the Overload light comes on after about 10 seconds and the unit emits a loud constant beep. This is with NOTHING plugged into it (no appliances). I then put the old batteries back in and re-tested. Same thing! Overload/beep sound after about 10 seconds. Is there any fix to it? Thanks.

    I should add that none of APC's tech support phone numbers seem to work. Both 1-800-555-2725 and 1-800-800-4272 ring and ring....

    A tech at APC *finally* answered the phone and had me pull the battery and depress the power switch for 10 seconds to reset the unit. I put the battery back in and powered it up. The unit again made a loud buzz and overloaded. The tech said that the unit was at the end of it's life (made in 2005 according to the serial number). So off to find a new unit.... btw - They offer a "TradeUPS" program, but it's cheaper to just purchase a new one.

Purchase of new unit will really solve the problem. anyway your UPS inverter is already faulty, and it need to change some of the component inside, basically the power mosfets and some of the faulty component around it. if you are not in a rush to use your UPS you can just send it for repair to any APC authorized service center near you.

You should only install a higher amp breaker if ALL of the wiring served by that breaker are of sufficient gauge to support the amperage of the breaker. My unit, I don't know which one, seems to have a short circuit; it blows fuses.


if your unit is old enough to "not" have a gfci on the plug that goes in wall then im not aware it has any fuse inside it that could go bad , instead these rely on the homes proper electrical ckts to provide fuse/breaker functions that keep a fire from resulting if appliance overloads , now as for reasons of overloads these are many ! can be anything from water in the wrong place to a damaged motor inside

How do i find thermal switch to reset it


Thermal cut-outs or thermal overloads are normally located inside appliance to the rear next too or around heater and best to get an engineer to help with this problem, only ones I know with switch outside are Whirlpool, WhiteKnight and some old Bosch Dryers.

Take the battery out and see if it does the same thing when you turn it on.

Refrigerator not working


replace the ptc overload contactor relay located on the compressor,it merely unplugs off the compressor and get an exact replacement from most any appliance parts outlet,this component serves to protect and aid in compressor starting and or overloads, this will solve your non-functional units non operation

Coffee pot is not getting electrical current


Swich off at this power point pull out the plug on coffee maker and try another appliance that you know is working and try in this same power point.
If this second appliance works,you know for certain theirs a problem with the coffee maker.
The problem could be anywhere from the 3 pin socket on the coffee maker,the lead,themostat,overloads,or heater element/s.
Unless you are a competent electrical person repairs should not be carried out by yourself,
Even if do you will have to take it to get it meggered by a competant electrical person and a safety tag fitted to appliace, before you switch it on ,for the safety of everyone.

If the second appliance does not work, you know the problem is from the power point back.

APC BACK-UPS PRO 1100VA 120V does not cold start.


When was the last time you replaced the batteries? These units will not start with old / failed batteries connected, or without batteries connected.

If you have a voltmeter, check the batteries. Your unit should have two batteries harnessed together. if you check the individual battery, you should see just over 13 volts, together should be around 26 volts. if you see less than 12.5 volts, that would be why the unit will not start.

How do you know if the comprssor is the problem of a fridge not working. Just out of nowhere one day. My fridge and freezer stoped being cold and i noticed the little humming sound was not there anymore.


Your overloads at the compressor have gone bad. These can be picked up at any appliance repair shop that sells parts. 50-00 or less if you do the job yourself.

It's battery. That's usually a low battery alarm. You need a new battery and possibly the internal software reset. You need an RBC6, check shopping sites, figure $80 for low end.
