SOURCE: machine beeps and stops sewing, no error message displayed

sounds like not through the tension plate (on top) right... rethread and make sure you hold the thread taunt toward you as you putt through top tension... you should hear a slight click and some resistance...

SOURCE: machine will not complete a buttonhole, keeps showing error code 6L. No error code listed in manual. Machine will only do first half of buttonhole and then shows code and stops.

I've been looking too and I found here http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/sewingclasses/board.pl?t=18328that you need to put the bar behind the needle threader down. I think they call it a button hole stop? I don't know, but it worked. I didn't even know it existed. But it solved my problem. On my Kenmore it looks like a black lever and you pull it down. It tells the button-holer that you are at the end of the hole and it needs to backup. nifty, kind of.

Try re-threading the machine. Also, when you put the thread trough the clear plastic part on the top left at the back, swish it back and forth a couple times before bringing it all the way through. It is a little tip someone told me and seems to work wonders.

Error Code: Check and rethread the upper thread

Yes. It is a sensor on the take up spring. If you miss threading the take up spring you get this error. If take up spring is bent or broken you get this error or if sensor is damaged this error occurs.

Error Code E7 on Singer 6180

E7 means the machine has 'had enough' and that error flashes to let you know it needs a break. I found that out by trial and error and after phoning Singer as well.

I need to hem a t-shirt but not sure how...ie: type of stitch, length, needle et...do I need to zig zag first then finish off with a stretch stitch ? Thanks

The best way to hem around a garment where the seam is going to receive stretching during wearing is with a stretch twin (double) needle.

Pretty easy, just turn up an even hem of 15mm right around the hem line (I am assuming that the bottom edge is even, if not, trim it up first), and press this hem allowance up, pin if you have a jersey that won't stay flat but many cotton knits are fine and the pressing will be enough.

Then thread up your sewing machine for twin needle sewing, refer to your manual if you have never done this before. You will thread two spools of same colour thread up on top of the machine and bring both threads through all threading points down to your needle, then one through each needle eye. Some machines will have a tension device where you can run each thread on either side of a tension disc, most will have twin spools on top of the machine to hold both spools.

You need a stretch twin needle, Schmetz do these in two sizes,
Stretch Twin
Size:
2.5/75, 4.0/75
Twin needles look like this.
tally_girl_65.jpg I prefer the 2.5mm gap between the needles. Dont try with a regular twin, it must be stretch needle with ball point points. On some computerised machines, you need a twin needle with a blue bridge, on mechanical machines it will have a red bridge (something to do with horizonal hooks I think). But read your manual or look in your accessory box, your machine may have come with a twin needle and if so, make a note of the needle bridgecolour, then buy that one next time.

Now, set the machine for a straight stitch and place the garment right side up, with the folded hem allowance underneath on the sewing machine and align the folded edge on your 10mm marking. Start at a side seam, and stitch SLOWLY around the whole hem line until you get back to the starting point. Stop, cut your threads and press again. Voila done. I never bother to zigzag a knit fabric, just stitch it. Knits don't fray.

I have for gotten how to make the machine sew and im having trouble threading a bobbin for my moms machine elna 7000 i need a manual or a quick note to get started

YOu can down load a manual from here http://www.arizonaexpressionz.com/elna_instruction_manuals/Elna7000.pdf

Just remember to click the bobbin thread into the tension device correctly and hold the two threads behind the pressure foot when you start each seam - Elna top loading bobbins give great stitch quality but you just need to keep stray threads out or they'll jam up.

Also, you must use the Elna plastic bobbin that the manual specifies for this machine - the 5000, 7000 and 9000 were Elna Tavaro Switzerland's first foray into computerised machines and first released in 1986.

Also, please check the manual when you go to buy twin needles, there are two types now as computerised machines usually need the twin needles offset from the shaft position. They have red or black plastic block between the shaft and the twin needles - I think you need the red ones but just double check the manual to make sure. And you can't do all the wide stitches with a twin needle as it will strike the foot.

Hope this helps a little.
