Question about Microsoft Internet Explorer 7

1 Answer

Takes 2 to 3 attempts to open Explorer

Sometimes when I click on the e button my computer just opens a blank screen and after awhile says can't connect. If I try again sometimes the same thing happens and other times it finally connects on the second or third attempt. This happens almost every time.
I am directly connected to Verizon Fios router.

I had a little bit of trouble following the instructions, but after I figured out where to define the IP address all was working perfectly! Thanks so much for "fixing" my problem.

The is done differently in different browsers. The three most common are Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome. I'll list the steps for each.

Internet Explorer:
  1. Make sure you've closed all open tabs, then open Internet Explorer for the desktop.

  2. Click Tools, and or click Internet options.

Under the General tab, enter the web address of your new home page, and then click Apply.

Firefox:

  1. Open the web site you want to set as your home page. If you want a blank home page, open a new tab.

  3. Click Yes to set this as your home page.

Chrome:

  1. Click the Chrome menu snp_2696434_en_v1 on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings.
    • Set your homepage
When the "Show Home button" checkbox is selected, a web address appears below it. If you want the Homepage button to open up a different webpage, click Change to enter a link.

You could have a slow internet connection, malware and spyware. Or need to clean your internet files to speed up your internet browser. Try downloading, installing and running ccleaner and spybot

Try a scan with your virus scan, then with a malware scanner, i use Malwarebytes.
I would then use CCleaner, use the registry cleaner also.
This will clean out all your temp files, and remove any registry errors that may be causing IE from starting properly.
You could also use Firefox, or chrome as your browser if this does not fix it

First Close all applications you have open on your Computer. start and click Run. Type ftp.mozilla.org. It would open up a window with 3 options, open PUB. Open Firefox. Open Releases. Open 3.6. Open Win32. Open En-US. Right Click on the First file that says Firefoz3.6setup.exe. Click Copy. Minimize this screen(Click on the Minus button on the top right corner). Right click on empty space on your Desktop(Home Screen where you have Icons) and click Paste. The file would get downloaded to your computer. Double click on the File Download and Install, Finish the installation by just hitting next every time it says. And now you have a brand new browser ready for your computer.

My computer freezes when i click the hyperlinks

The first thing to do when Internet Explorer is misbehaving is empty your Internet Explorer cache. Often the cache is not corrupt or damaged – it is simply too large.
    1.
Click Tools, then Internet Options, and then click the Delete Files button.
    2.
A Delete Files window will appear. Select the option to Delete all offline content, and then click OK.
    3.
Click Settings and reduce the size of your cache to, say, 50 to 100 MB (more if you routinely download very large files).

What windows operating system are you using? The best way to defrag a hard drive is to turn off your screensaver, if you have one set to run, then reboot your computer in safe mode, by continuously tapping the F8 key at the bootup screen, and then selecting safe mode (#3) on the menu. Then go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmentor. Be sure you have the settings to correct any problems that it may find. If you have to scan your hard drive for problems, then open My Computer/right-click the C: drive/select properties/click the tools tab/and under error checking, click the 'check now' button. Checking your hard drive for errors will take awhile to accomplish, so just let it run.
