SOURCE: All of the filling has come out of my dogs bed

Most dog beds are made with foam with an outside cover which is usually removable. There is nothing to say that the foam is harmful to your pet but you should always make sure you clean up any little pieces of foam that the dog has chewed to avoid the risk of them swallowing it.

SOURCE: My dogs bed has become rather smelly, she loves it so I was wondering how you could get rid of the smell?

The best way to get rid of bad odors is to wash or dry clean, however if it is not possible to do either of these you could use distilled vinegar vapor. To do this you need to fill a bathtub with very hot water and add 1 cup of white distilled vinegar, close all windows and doors and hang the dogs bed in there on the shower rack. The steam will rise up and neutralize the bad smells.

SOURCE: My dog sleeps in a kennel. All of the beds that I have seen at my local pet store will not fit inside. Is there any kind of bed I can buy my dog so that she can be more comfortable inside her crate?

Indeed there is! There is a wide variety of kennel beds available online. These beds are sold in a variety of sizes to best fit your kennel. I will attach a link for you that should be helpful.

SOURCE: What is a raised dog bed and why should I get one for my dog?

A raised dog bed is a dog bed that is raised above the ground; generally by 6 inches. These beds can be extremely comfortable, considering they are not on the hard floor. Even with excess padding, other dog beds are still essentially on the ground.

SOURCE: Is there such thing as a waterproof dog bed?

Yes. I highly recommend them too! Waterproof beds are great because they do not absorb moisture from your dog; which in turn, helps reduce odors that build up over time.

How to train your dog to use their dog bed

Many people have told me that they find it difficult to train their dog to use the bed they bought for them rather than sleeping on their owners beds. I thought I would post a few tips here that you may find helpful.

The easiest way to train a dog to do this is to start when they are a puppy. Needless to say, older dogs can also be trained.

A large part of bed training, believe it or not, comes down to proper bed placement. It is crucial you find the right spot in your home for your dogs' bed. Try to find a place away from direct sunlight and free of drafts. Try to find a location away from too many loud noises and excessive interruptions, while still close enough to feel a part of the family interactions.

I recommend that you try to associate their bed with positive reinforcements such as playing and snacking. You should verbally reward your pet every time he/she approaches the bed on their own agenda. Try putting one of your dogs favorite toys in the bed. This will indicate to your dog that it is a safe place.

Be patient. With some dogs bed training could take several days; depending on the age of your dog, it could take up to 2 weeks. Stay diligent and don't give up. Your dog will come to love sleeping in their own bed and you will find that they will spend a lot of time there.

Benefits of Dog Beds

Besides being a place to relax/sleep on, dog beds provide great benefits for your dog. First of all, compared to laying down on the floor, dog beds are much cleaner. Even if you clean your floor every day, there will still be dirt and debris. On the other hand, dog beds can be kept clean quite easily. Secondly, dog beds are a place where dogs can have time for themselves. Whether it's playing with a toy or just going to sleep, beds give dogs a sense of privacy that they sometimes desire. Third, certain types of beds provide dogs with health-related benefits. For example, orthopedic beds are great for dogs with arthritis or other orthopedic problems. In addition, heating beds can be great for dogs who suffer from sore muscles. Fourth, it is better for dogs to lay down on their own bed rather on the sofa, especially if it likes to bite things and make a mess. Last benefit and perhaps the most important one is the comfort that these beds provide the dogs. Dog beds are plain and simple really comfortable for dogs! And because there's a large variety to choose from, there's no reason that you shouldn't find a nice bed for your dog.

What is the best way to determine what size bed my dog needs?

First you need to determine how your dog sleeps - this will be very important in your decision making process. If your dog sleeps curled up in a ball, then a nest bed would be your best choice. You should measure your dog while they are sleeping curled up and then add 7 inches to properly determine the length you will need. If your dog prefers to sleep stretched out, then you will need either a standard bed. Measure your dog and add 12 inches to determine what length bed you will need.

Feed dogs won't stay down

Your machine needs to go in for service.

In the meantime, try this:

Set the stitch length to zero to slow down the motion of the feed dogs.

Securely tape an index card over the feed dogs with a hole punched in the center for the needle.

Painter's Blue Tape works well as it does not leave a residue.

Do a test sample to see if this will work for you until the machine can be repaired.
