I connected camera to PC to download pics & all pics shown on PC screen were very broken. They didn't look like photos at all. When seen on camera, they were OK.

Honestly, this is a camera with very poor resolution. My I downloaded my child's photos, they looked awful. I even took my own photos and they still looked terrible.

I would try taking test photos yourself and seeing if this improves. You need to have a very steady hand and not move the camera for several seconds when taking the photos.

CAN'T DOWNLOAD PIC ON MY COMPUTER

You didn't specify the make and model of your camera, so I'm assuming it uses a memory card of some type.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa.

I have a Panasonic DMC-FX550 Lumix camera. The date and time show on the camera when i play the pictures, but when i connect the camera to the laptop and view them i cannot see the date and time.I have gone...

The camera screen is displaying the "metadata" for each picture as you view them. Your computer screen does not. However, when you download your pics to the computer, the metadata goes with them. If you hover your pointer over each file, the info will appear. You can right-click and get even more info. Some photo editing programs will even give you every detail including the lens opening and shutter speed, the make of camera that took the pic, etc.

Then when complete connect cxamera to the PC and it will be discovered and install its drivers.
then open the soiftware it installed and access your pics OR=====
go to START RCLICK ... EXPLORE and scroll down till you see the camera select it and it should show 2 folders, one will have your photos 0000.jpg or whatever. Make sure you have thumnbnails selected ( View) in Menu bar select thumbnails. Select the photos you want and drag them to a location you want to save them to MyPhotos eg:

Sometimes the software that came with the camera is not needed anyway so just connect it and see if it does it automatically ( install it) and use explore as above or

The camera shows that there is space for only 32 more photos on the compact flash card but the camera is displaying only 30 photos, rest of them cannot be seen and they cannot be downloaded onto the PC....

Not quite sure what you are trying to convey here!

It has 30 photos that you can see
It has room for 32 more...being reported
There are folders showing on the PC or cam.

There are always folders on the camera and they are
Usually given a numeral like 124-355 125-222 etc with a master folder called something like DHMC
try clicking on the folderswith numeraols and seeing what is inside them, possibly more photos.......
You dont say what size card you are using or what mode the camera is in RAW or jpg with RAW you will get less pics per Mb than with JPG...

Thanks for using FIXYA

Pics exist but may be damaged

First of all, recover lost files from memory card
1. Do not save any new file to memory card.
2. Connect memory card to computer. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in My Computer.
3. Download best photo recovery software from here
this asoftech photo recovery program help me before, works quite well and it's easy to use
4. Install and open asoftech photo recovery program, select your memory drive, and click 'Start' button to start scanning process which will find your photos.

After you get back your photos, you can format the memory card to fix the problem.

Card not initialised

You can recover the missing pics off your card get, there are some image recovery programs available on the net and most camera shops will offer a card recovery service but dont format before you get pics recovered.

Not formatting a card is bad. They need to be formatted on a regular basis because deleting images from card does not remove them and the next image taken only overwrites the old ones.
