Take out the pump pot basket and stick your finger in the hole towards the motor (make sure the motor won't kick on!!). What you should feel is the impeller. It has five grooves in the face of it and each one needs to be cleaned of foilage and debris. With every hole clogged in the impeller you lose 20% of your motors effeciency. With whisperflow brand the pump pot basket is poorly designed where debris like pine needles go straight through.

The lateral(s) are damaged and allowing sand thru and back to the pool. I have never dealt with that specific brand to know if the laterals come as one assembly or individual pieces. You'll need to contact the dealer you got the unit from or check online at http://www.onga.com.au/dealerlocator for someone in your area.

Depending on its age, it may have been fitted with the wrong thermal overload when it was manufactured. If it is relatively new go back to your supplier for a fix; if it is not new please tell us more about the problem..

You are probably wondering how to remove the impeller - generally, these are screwed on to tha motor shaft - motors normally run clockwise when viewed from the rear, so thread is normal right hand. remove fan cowl and fan from motor in order to be able to restrain the shaft while you unscrew the impeller - it should be straightforward from there.
Bearing failure is more often than not brought on by leakaege from the mechanical seal - when you reassemble the pump you should replace the seal assembl - also make sure that there is no damage in the form of melted plastic around the seal stationary seat area; replace parts as necessary.
