Question about Canon EOS 600D Rebel T3i Digital Camera
I had already taken pictures on my camera when this happened. I also already reinserted my card, but I do not know how to format it.

I assume you mean one of the pins inside the camera body itself? This is quite a common problem and I believe it will have to be dealt with by a Canon Repair Centre. However it is not the end of the camera and is worth having done although I cannot say what the are charging at this time.

SOURCE: I have a new EOS
That sounds like an issue with the memory card. Yes you will lose all current photos on it when you format the memory card. It's also safe to leave the battery in the camera as DSLRs don't drain power when the camera isn't in use.
