Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook

1 Answer

Multi-layered problems... active x, audio device not installed

BIG series of issues: HP dv6000 lap top - windows vista

Immediate and most important concern: Need to download adobe flash -- message is that my computer does not allow active X downloads ...
have checked all entries in internet/tools - and it does allow it -- this problem only happened after problem below

1.) error message last week started with no audio device installed -
2.) Spent more than 2 hours on chat with HP - they said to just back up and re-install windows vista - decided not to do that
3.) contact you guys and it was recommended I do #4 - which I did
4.) downloaded spyware and ad aware and ran them 2X - had trojans and other stuff -- cleared them out and computer will now reboot without crashing ... still no audio device installed shows & cannot download adobe flash

further recommendation was to re-install service pack 2 - only have service pack1 installed and based on forums I'm afraid to re-install that ...

right now immediate need is to download adobe flash -- working on project for client with flash and can't see it!

I'll worry about sound later ...if anyone can help with the adobe issue --
oh, did what adobe said re: this issue which is following --

You must have administrator privileges to successfully complete these instructions.

  1. Follow the instructions to download the SubInACL tool from the Microsoft Download Center.
  2. Install SubInACL.
  3. Download the reset_fp10.zip file.
  4. Extract the reset_fp10.cmd file to C:Program FilesWindows Resource KitsTools.

Important: Be sure that both the subinacl.exe and reset_fp10.cmd files are in the same location here: C:Program FilesWindows Resource KitsTools.
  5. Double-click reset_fp10.cmd.
  6. This will open a command window and execute the SubInACL tool.
  7. Do not use the machine while SubInACL is running.
  8. When it is finished you will see ''Press any key to continue''.
  9. Install the Flash Player from www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer.
That did not work -- however, did it before I cleaned the trojans ...

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated ...

    mryman - you're a genuis!

do you know how many hundreds of people are out there on the forums with the same problem? You fixed it!

Ok, might be asking too much, but can you take a look at the audio device not installed problem? Read my notes - at least 12 hours into investigating this ...

possible clue: when I did get things sort of working and tried going to install new hardware, and tried to install the conextant audio ...

    it crashed every time ...

I am afraid to do anything now...but, since you're my genius of the night, any thoughts?
I have my entire transcript from my time with HP copied -- if that would help --

  • mindsetforpe Jan 20, 2009

You did it! Check this out -- I now have a speaker symbol, and it says "high definition audio device" -- the sliders are there, but

    no sound --

terrified to install any new drivers though ... thoughts? As each time I did they crashed my system

    Hi there
First of all Vista service pack 2 is still in the beta stages and is full of bugs and security issues, stay with service pack 1 for the time being. If you have SP2 installed remove it straight away.
Vista has trouble with certain device drivers even though Microsoft say the work, can you please tell me which version of Vista you have?

See if this will let you install flash player...in windows explorer opern the folder holding internet explorer...usually c:program filesinternet explorer...then right-click in iexplore.exe and select "Run as Administrator". You should be able to go to the Adobe website and install the flash player. If not, go try going here and just download it and install from your hard drive........

Before you go to the trouble of installing drivers...double check...If your getting the speaker symbol on the taskbar, right click and open the volume mixer, and assuming the sliders have the volume all the way up and the little speaker icons below the sliders are not set to mute, click on 'Device" in the top left corner and make sure the device is set to "Speakers" and not "SPDIF Interface". A lot of people have this setting wrong....

Maybe the reason the screen got smashed is frustration from the GPU issue.
I would get the GPU reballed with leaded solder and install Win7-64. I did on my m7, no issues now.

My hp g7000 turns off everytime i remove the charger whats the problem ?

Suggest bad Power MOSFET's on the motherboard.
May include MLCC's (That are SMD/SMT)

Example using HP Pavilion dv6000 series, and Pavilion dv9000 series; of Notebook PC's,

http://mayohardware.blogspot.com/2010/04/important-parts-on-dv6000-and-dv9000.html

These series use a Fairchild Semiconductor Industries - FDS6679 - Power MOSFET, and a;
Alpha & Omega LTD - A04407 - Power MOSFET.

Examples showing availability and cost;

http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=FDS6679

The FDS6679 is Obsolete.
Using the cross-reference FDS6679AZ example shown,

http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Fairchild-Semiconductor/FDS6679AZ/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMshyDBzk1%2fWi1qxDdW%2fXBi2qgMuZEfLVO4%3d

One dollar and one penny USD.

http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=ao4407

AO4407 is also Obsolete. Using one of the cross-reference examples shown,

http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Diodes-Inc/DMP3020LSS-13/?qs=%2fha2pyFadugQJEAqJYuwC0NlHVHA8ivkIi5yij9Xhac5DoEAek3FbA%3d%3d

78 pennies USD

An MLCC is a Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor.
The ones used here are SMD/SMT.
Surface Mount Device/Surface Mount Technology.

Just like the P.MOSFET's are.

Looking back at the Mayohardware link, observe the second photo down. Shows the A04407 circled in Yellow.

Observe the small rectangular object to the immediate Right.
Has a large dark wide band in the middle of it.

There is one above it, one above that one at the Top; one to the left of the top one, and one to the Right of it. (Turned vertically)

There is also one immediately below the A04407, and 4 smaller examples shown to the Bottom/Left; of the AO4407.

These are MLCC's, and they are SMD/SMT.

An example of an MLCC, that is SMD/SMT; plus rated at 4.7uF (Microfarad), and 16 Volts,

Or replace the motherboard.

This is a direct link to the Service Manual.

It is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.

After you click on the link it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up.
(A PDF file will not show until fully downloaded),

If this link does not work for you, post back in a Comment; and I'll guide you in downloading from HP Support.

The link is the same Service Manual, as it is on HP Support.
Both are FREE, by the way.

Make SURE you are wearing an ESD wrist st-rap, and have it's alligator clip attached to a good ground source.
Average cost is around $3 to $6.

You do NOT want to Static shock out, the delicate hardware components; inside your computer.

Tried everything to get sound back on hp pavillion 9000 could the battery getting too hot be causing this

Tried everything how Bonnie?

Anyhoo, if it was through Device Manager, I'm not surprised. Hardly ever works. (But seems to be recommended by every 'IT' man, lol!)

Did you download AND install the audio driver? (Audio = Sound)
A lot of people think they can just download, and that's it.
I need;

1) The Product Number
This is in the white Service Tag, on the bottom of the laptop.
P/N = Product Number

2) Operating System.
What version of Windows is it? XP, or Vista?

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3224049#N231

(Has Windows 7 been installed?)

Once I have this information we'll get crackin'.

Battery is getting hot? How about the rest of the laptop, or close to the battery?
Having any problems with the graphics on the monitor screen?

Not to make your heart sink, but the HP Pavilion dv2000 series, Pavilion dv6000 series, and Pavilion dv9000 series; has a problem with inadequate cooling for the graphics chipset.

Post back in a Comment.

as it is an HP DV6000, with known motherboard issues, I would suggest try running a few other programs also and see if they hang as well.

I cannot hear sound from my laptop

Hi:
There is a known problem with the DV6000 series laptops, involving the sound , the Wifi, etc...This is almost 100% caused by a motherboard failure. the sort of good news is that HP extended the factory warranty on many models, but you need to quickly contact HP,as it is getting close to being over, if not already...

Cant turn my built in webcam on??

Hi,

This is known Webcam issue in DV6000 notebooks. To resolve or narrow down the issue, we have to check few things.

First open Device Manager.

Please follow these steps to open Device Manager:

1. Right Click on 'My Computer' icon on Desktop and choose Properties.
2. The System properties Window opens.
3. Click Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.

Expand + Imagining Devices and check if the HP Webcam is listed under it.

If Webcam is not listed there, then you have to contact HP to get the BIOS update.

If it is listed there, right click on it and select Disable. Again right click on it and select Enable.

Now open any applications like Quickplay and check if Webcam is working or not.

Please reply me if that won't resolve the issue, I can provide more work arounds

Photosmart 3310 is on network but not recognized wirelessly

Sounds like another Vista Bug, i would check the HP site for this issue and if its under warranty, contact HP. If you have alot of Blue tooth devices hooked up, it may be that its trying to use another device in its place or the signals are getting crossed, im not positive.

Its like when you have to many network drives all hooked up and you plug in a USB device, Windows pops up those anoying bubles saying its detected, but in My computer it doesnt show.

So bassically you have to right click my computer, manage, disk management listed uder storage, right click on the device or drive and change the drive letter to something like " W" or " Z" or anything not in use.

It may be a siomilar case with your bluetooth, youo may have to much stuff connected. Try redoing everything like you have so many other times before, and then limiting how many bluetooth devices you have connected at the same time. see if theres a difference.

Hope this helps.
