TV shuts off seconds after being turned on

My Pioneer SD-P50A5-K 50 Projection TV has started shutting itself off almost immediately after its turned on. It's fairly old TV, but I'm not sure if it's totallt broken, or if I've missed something and can fix it. Is there anything that can cause this problem, and is there a solution ? I'd be willing to pay for repairs, but how much would that likely be given the problem ? Thanks for any help on this.

My Pioneer Elite PRO-520 Rear Projection HDTV shuts off after being on for a few hours. It's 5 years old and has 1 month left on the warranty. My problem sounds similar to yours. I thought these Pioneers were the top of the line TV
s with regard to quality and workmanship.

I shut it off for a few hours and then try again. It comes on like nothing happened. How bizarre.

I have same problem. What is an estimate cost of parts and labor to correct this problem? Is this something that can be fixed at my home? Where could I find a service manual for this if I could replace the components myself? Thanks, Les

I also have a Pioneer SD-P50A5-K50in projection tv. It was purchased in 1997 but still has a great picture. Three years ago mine started to have a sizzling sound when I turned it on sometimes. It would shortly after turn it self off. For the last 2 years I would try to not turn the tv right off but only switch it to DVD which would leave a black screen looking like it was off. This worked up until just lately. Now it happens more frequently and putting it on DVD mode doesn't seem to help anymore. Sears told me it was the mother board and would cost $1100 to replace it. Does anyone have any other ideas?

I have a sd-p62a5-k projection tv. My tv began shutting itself off two weeks ago. I replace the fuse ( 125V 4A). The tv worked for about two days. the problem got progressively worse. Now the tv will not stay on. i read the others postings. I do not have a manual to begin reparing the PCB with the IC. I would not know what is what without a manual. Please help. thanks

I had the same problem with my sd-p55a5-k on both sides. first the power supply was doing the same thing. If I kept the main on and turned the tv off from the other power switch it would seem to stay on. Turn the main power off and it would not. I removed the power supply board and resoldered every track and Ic's and transistors, hell everything I could and it works fine now.
The second problem is I could just tap the tv real light and I would lose my picture. Tap it again and it would come on with a great picture. I do not believe its the resistors or anything but the same ole problem bad solder connections. I pulled off the bottom board where the convergance plugs into and resolderd it and found the only resistor that stood tall that clearly had a bad solder connection, I could not see it when the tv was together it was behind the convergance board. Anyway by that time I had resoldered all around one area that seemed touchy and when I put it back in It no longer lost the pic hitting the unit but now my pic is a little screwed up. I may have done a sloppy solder job on the board and will go back to see. But as of this point the powersupply works great sound is great and does not kick off when tapped just need to find out where I soldered bad.
BTW if your convergance board or other boards do not work correctly you power supply will hum and wine when it does not draw the current it should. Mine would when pic was bad, tap tv and it would go away. I just wish pioneer would have done the solder job right the first time because it does have one hell of a great pic when it works

This is actually a common problem with this unit and one that Pioneer is aware of... Over time the feed resistors in the convergence circuit change in value and the convergence ICs begin to fail, placing more of a load on the power supply than necessary and stressing components in the SMPS. The fix; Pioneer recommends upgrading the convergence IC's from STK392-110 to STK392-180, change all resistors in the convergence circuit that have changed in value and replace the power supply to repair the unit.

You may need the power supply board resoldered as I had the same problem. The guy listed below can do it for you as I shipped mine from Illinois to him in California... Piece of cake getting the board out of the back and it's not too fraigile... Just pack in bubble wrap and it will be fine. My TV is now working great.

BUT DON'T DELAY AS SOONER LATER TV WILL NOT RESTART..

Have a 55" pioneer rear projection tv, was working great, turned it off and when turning back on it comes on for a split second and it shuts off

Take the back of of your set. You should see if there are leds on the circuit boards that light up when you try to turn on set. Use these for reference.
If only D146 on the power supply lights up then the problem is the power boar.
If D1503 lights up then the problem is the audio circuit on the amp board.
If D2614 then the shut down is due to lack of vertical deflection. It could be caused by a defective amp assy or convergence control assy. Checj for convergence drive signal at CN2302 pin 1. If missing, IC2308 on convergence control assy is probably defective. You can confirm by checking blanking signal input on pin 1 of IC2308.
Good luck to you.
