Question about SanDisk Sansa e250 MP3 Player

Sansa crashed have white screen

I tried reformatting it and now it just shows a white screen and my computer doesn't reconize it

    My e250 did the same thing. I just let the battery run down. Plugged it in and it started working. In xp not vista. I tried to hold down the powerbutton, but no good. Left it on overnight + 1/2 day. good luck

I have a e250 also and it white screened. I could'nt shut it off. I just left it on overnight and 1/2 of the next day until the battery went dead. Then pluged it in. It Worked!!!!

My Sansa Fuze sometimes goes to the White Screen of Death too--
1) Turn it on, get the white screen, then hold the 'off' button in the up position for up to 20 seconds to force it off. Wait 20 more seconds, then turn it on again.

2) You may have to reformat your player--
If you have a copy of the 'Sansa Updater' software on your computer, page 17 of the user manual says that reformatting the player is possible through commands from your computer. If your player is recognized by the computer, this could also work.

I added music to my m230 and my hard drive crashed a few weeks ago. Windows media player on my new computer (uses Windows 7) won't let me add or delete music off of my player. How do I get reset or get...


I went into "My Computer" and right clicked on the Sansa. I then chose reformat since I already had the files backed up. The Sansa was then reformatted and I was able to add music to my player.

Reformatting help


Here's a new tip from another user - let me knwo if it works, b/c I have loads more advice:
ok so i called 1-866-sandisk and she told me how to fix it. you just flip the key lock at the top so you see orange, then hold down the record button. then you should get some sort of message on the screen. then you plug it in and under my computer a file should show up. you open it and make a folder in it called sansa.fwm (i think thats the right folder name, if not, try sansa.tmp or email me). then you unplug it and it should say formatting or something like that. once its done it should work.

Good show! Reformatting doesn't usually solve a problem like that, since it is usually hardware-related. But, good to know!

My sansa fuze is not working


Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me;.

Offhand, the message indicates that the Sansa is requesting that the internal storage be reformatted using the PC. This would require that the Fuze be connected to the PC through USB. Thereafter, the computer would recognize it as an external storage device. Steps required to format:
  • connect Sansa Fuse to USB of PC;
  • double click on "My Computer";
  • it would show probable as an "E";
  • right click on the "E" and click on "Format...";
  • a new window will pop up;
  • under the "File system" pls select FAT or FAT 32;
  • verify that "Quick Format" is un-checked;
  • click on Start button.

These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.

Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp
If these fail, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer.
