Question about Sony STR-DE997 7.1 Channels Receiver

Open Question

Sony STR-DE997 - Right channel doesn't work

I have a Sony STR-DE997 7.1 home audio receiver. The right channel has stopped working on both the A and B speaker outputs. I have checked that the balance was actually set wrong, but it is set dead center. I have tested the speakers and they work find on the left channel, just no audio from the right.

I'm tech saavy (EE) and have made many repairs on my home electronics. Just looking for BTDT guidance on this one. Thanks!

Duh...with the kids constantly connecting/disconnecting their game systems, the Right-channel RCA cable from the CD player to the receiver came loose. Tightened up the connections and all is well.

SOURCE: str-gx800es sony receiver problem- right

If you have checked the speakers and wiring, the right channel has a audio driver or output problem, which explains the low volume, static, and distortion. A service technician will be required to fix the receiver so it will balance the left side.

A lot of these systems have options for switching off speakers and subs. You should look up the speaker settings options of the Sony. If you have the manual see what it says about connecting an active sub.

Speakers stop working

This is either a loose connection internally or a dirty control such as the volume control. Both of these will require a trip to the shop

There is a music button on the front panel that allows you to select Jazz Club, Live and concert hall. It cycles between these 3 options and every time it switches, the audio cuts out

Momentary cutout is normal when you switch between DSP modes (Digital Sound Processing). The unit has to crunch the numbers anew each time you change the parameters.
