SOURCE: The ice dispenser door stays open. Selenoid works

This is due to a rusted solenoid plunger .You will need to remove the top freezer door hinge cover ( 1 screw ) , and disconnect the plug there . This will remove power to the dispensor . Using a screwdriver , insert it just behind the dispensor board , and twist , to pry the board off . Remove the 3 plugs there , and remove the board . Remove the 4 screws on the white cover , and slide the cover out and off . In the top right , in the dispensor area , you will see the solenoid and plunger . 3 screws hold the solenoid on . Lift the flap , and the plunger will lift off . Part number for solenoid and plunger is WR62X10055 . The closing spring is probably good , and if you are pushing the flap closed , you are moving the plunger itself , instead of it gliding inside the solenoid , to the closed position .

SOURCE: The flap on the freezer door for ice dispenser does not close

I will need that model number listed on the fresh food section behind the door and near floor kick plate, let me know if you have trouble finding the model number. Sometimes it is hard to find as every company puts theirs somewhere different, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Whirlpool side by side with ice maker dispenser not working

Hello, we are sorry to hear that you are experiencing this problem. We would suggest checking the ice chute to make sure that there is no ice lodged in the way of the flap. If the issue persist we would suggest having a certified technician out to look at the Refrigerator. If you would like further assistance you can send your name, phone number, address, model/serial of the appliance and the date on which you purchased the Refrigerator to Whirlpool_Reviews@Whirlpool.com. Frost buildup inside freezer door at ice dispenser

you are still not getting a seal on that flap. It sounds as if it may be warped. THe reason the frost and ice is building up is due to the flap not sealing there isn't any other reson for your problem. Good luck on your repairs

Frost builds up in dispenser area .hard to open because of frost buildup.

The ice dispensor flap is not closing completely , causing the frost in the inside shoot and on the bottom of the dispensor . Sometimes caused by a broken ice guide ( clear piece attached to the arm that activates the dispensor on the door ) it hits against the flap , not letting it close . Model number would have helped more .

Freezer keeps running

yes,you need to pull the front panel on the ice maker off to get to the solinoid that opens and closes the flap, with the flap vranked open you are letting cold air out and warm air in and that makes frost,if you don't want to try and fix it your self put a cloth towel in the chute to block the air lose and call an honest local appliance repair person-mike

Ice maker chute icing up

The flap is probably not closing properly. Dispense some ice, then open the freezer door and look to see if the flap is still slightly open. If so, you will have to take the front cover off of the control panel and clean the muck off of the flap mechanism and also clean the solenoid. I have to do this about 2X year. Not a big job, but be careful.
