Question about Samsung HL-P5063W 50" Rear Projection HDTV

DLP Image I have installed a new color wheel in a Samsung HLP5063W; and the image is a bit out of focus, and the dark areas of the picture are "washed out" --no detail in them. Unit is three years old and other components have also failed (fan). dark areas don't show image clearly

I have the exact same problem, my color wheel failed (bearings) at 13 months, I did not purchase the extended warranty from Circuit City, I assumed Samsung would stand behind their product. Bad assumption. So I purchased a color wheel from The Parts Store.com and changed the color wheel, that has been two years ago and I have been living with the dark scenes with the green hue since. Sporting events look great, but it has about driven me to purchase a new TV. If indexing is all I need then I'm all for that. I like the TV, but it looks like $&i! right now. Thanks for the info and now I'm off to find a service tech here in middle Georgia who can do this without screwing it up. Great blog by the way!!!

Did you switch from a bearing Color wheel to an air type bearing? If so,you have to remove the jumper on the board.

In some cases, after installing a new color wheel, the speed of the wheel motor must be adjusted to obtain proper speed to ensure a satisfactory image. Unfortunately, you can not and should not attempt to do this adjustment yourself as the service menu contains many adjustments which if accidentily mis-adjusted may cause irrepairable harm to your TV. Ask a local samsung servicer to do an "index delay" adjustment in the service menu.

MY SAMSUNG DLP MN HLP6163W PICUTURE HAS FADED

If you have had this unit for awhile it could just be the lamp. If the image does'nt brighten up you may have an issue with the light path. The color wheel produces the color. If there was an issue with the color wheel you would most likely have a black and white image.

Pictures appear to be darker than original in print outs.

You can make several adjustments to improve your images such as lightening dark areas, changing the exposure, sharpening blurred edges, and changing the brightness and contrast.
  • Exposure adjusts the overall intensity of light in an image.
  • Adaptive Lighting improves only the dark areas in an image without affecting the bright areas.
  • Brightness adjusts the amount of light in colors ranging from light to dark.
  • Contrast adjusts the difference in brightness between light and dark areas of an image.
  • Sharpness helps define edges and the smoothness of texture in an image. Use this tool to make a blurred image appear more focused.
Adjusting the image Follow the steps below to make adjustments:
  1. Click the View tab and select the image you want to edit by either clicking the image, or by clicking the small box at the bottom left corner of the image. Figure 1: Select the image c00603524.gif
  2. Click the Edit tab and then click the Advanced tab.
  3. On the Advanced tools tab, click Adjust Image .
  4. Select an adjustment from the list on the left. Figure 2: Adjusting the brightness c00603525.gif
    • The Exposure adjustment is automatically applied when the Adjust Image tool opens. Eight variations of the image are displayed on the left. The current image is displayed in the center. Each image represents a different level of adjustment. When you move the pointer over any of the images on the left, a large version of the image is displayed. Use Preferences to turn this large image preview on or off and to set the timing for the display.
    • If you want to use a different adjustment tool, select Adaptive Lighting , Brightness , Contrast , or Sharpness from the list.
  5. Select one of the images on the left.
  6. Do one of the following:
    • Click Accept to accept all changes and exit from the Color Toolkit.
    • Click Cancel to discard all changes and exit from the Color Toolkit.
  7. If you have finished modifying the image, do one of the following to save your changes:
    • Click Save to overwrite the original image.
    • Click Save As to save the modified image with a different name.

Color is bad after installing color wheel in samsung dlp tv

Most times color does not to be reset. If you have a very ugly green or blue picture, then you did not pull the jumper on the dm board. This jumper must be removed when a bering type color wheel has be replaced with a new airless bering color wheel.
