SOURCE: Gas Safety

this is actually how every gas stove is set up and yes it would be a safety issue but there is really no way to change how they work i do wish the people building them would do it with at least a timer or something but that would make the product much more expensive. same type of technology is also used on propane bbq grills btw. it is just something you get used to after a while i have had gas for the last ten years and dont even notice it now

SOURCE: sears kenmore gas oven - bought a new oven safety

Hello,

The reason the igniter would come on yet not let the gas flow is because the IGNITER IS WEAK and not drawing the proper power to open the gas valve. Replace the igniter nad the oven will work without having to tap on the valve

I have a mile gas cooktop and the gas does not light .There is no gas coming out of the jet .Is it a electrical problem

First check your gas valve usually located behind the stove and ensure it is on. There may be an exterior valve. Second check the connection to the stove. If these steps fail you may have a faulty unit or need to replace the microprocessing unit that controls the safety features of your range.

Oven lights but doesnt stay lit. Does anyone know what the problem could be and how to remedy it?

Safety valve failure. (TURN OFF GAS, then do as follows): Check voltage when the stove is "on" at the safety valve. If it reads 24 volts, then the safety valve is bad. If it reads _less_ than 24 volts, then the ignitor is bad (EVEN IF it is glowing red). The problem is that the ignitors can glow red, but still "eat" so much voltage that the safety valve fails to open (or stay open). It is a "resistance" problem inside the ignitor, even through it appears to be good. // Simply stated: 24 volts at the safety valve means bad safety valve. Less than 24 volts at the safety valve means bad ignitor. (I am certain of this information).

Electronic ignitor on propane stove wont start

  1. Close all valves, including the one on the supply tank.
  2. Open valves SLOWLY starting with the tank. Safety valves are built in to prevent escape og gas if vales are broken off.
  3. Turn on ONE burner valve and, depening on the ignition type of your stove, light it. (some have an electric spark generated by a power outlet (120v) and make a sort of poping sound, some have a spark generated by a push button type mechanism.
  4. Once one burner lights, the others should light easily. Sometimes air gets in the lines, and this may have to bleed off, but it should only take a few seconds. -PS, make sure the stove is level, since gas tends to flow to the high spot.

No do not bypass the gas safety valve this is very dangerous. it is there to prevent a gas buildup and an explosion. No professional will touch it

Oven burner flame is low

0000000.jpgOn top of that safety valve is a nut. Get a good fitting wrench. Turn on the oven and use that good fitting wrench on that nut. Turn it counterclockwise till the flame comes up about midways of the flame spreader. Don't get the flames too high. Midways of the spreader now. LOL

Often times you will have problems with the gas thermostat and not necessarily with the safety valve. Once you have lit the pilot light, turn the oven knob to any temperature. The pilot light should get bigger in size of flame. If not, the thermostat that controls the oven must be replaced. If the pilot light does get bigger, but the stove does not ignite, it is the safety valve.
