Question about Sony STR-DG510 Receiver

1 Answer

NO AUDIO/set up problems

I recently bought a STR-DG510 5.1 and have tried to connect a DVD player Panasonic DMR-EZ48V via the DVD in HDMI no audio came through i have the sky hd connected via the video2 and the optical is connected via the video 2 optical input.
The dvd also has optical sound output but nowhere to plug it in in the amp.
I am a novice in all these matters am i missing something bindingly obvious? shouldn't the sound be coming through the HDMI cable in to the amp regardless of the optical connection? there is a coaxal digital sound jack on the back of the amp but nowhere to connect it to on the dvd please help this is a nightmare!!!

For this Sony, you have to use separate audio cable(s). Either optical in BD or Digital Audio in DVD (single coaxial cable will do the trick) I bet the display says UNLOCK. I had the same problem, very dumb.

Good day!

You need to either connect an optical or digital cable from your audio source. If it is a cable box or DVD player there should be audio outputs in addition to HDM.
Hope this will help...

Video but no audio

This receiver does not support audio via HDMI. You need to connect BD player via spdif cable. Use optical or coax depending on what does the BD player support - receiver supports both.

Sony str-dg820. having a problem getting video on tv

Hook up Composite / Component Monitor Out wire from receiver to TV video input because receiver will not change analog input into HDMI
You need to connect receiver and TV through analog video terminals as above.
Actually you are expecting that receiver will convert DVD player and Xbox analog video input into digital HDMI signal for TV and This is incorrect.

Sony STR-DG810 w/ Bose Acoustimass 10

Try this:
Go into the menu settings by pressing "Receiver" --> "6-Video" --> "HDMI Audio" select "Amp," not "Amp+TV"
Yeah, it makes total sense to have a very important audio setting in the video menu.

Digital optical from DVD player produces no audio

Hi, It sounds like your receiver is still looking for audio on the coaxial connection, rather than the optical.

1. Make sure the optical connection is between your DVD player and the LD/DVD Optical In on the back of your receiver.
2. If you have a monitor connected to the receiver to show the on-screen display, click Setup from the main menu, click Input Mode, then, next to LD/DVD choose Optical. It may be set to coaxial, analog or auto.

Alternatively, choose the input source on the front of your receiver (LD/DVD), then press Input Mode button (bottom right, near the input selector) till it displays Digital Optical.

If all else fails, reset the receiver by:
1. Turn off the receiver
2. Hold down DISPLAY and PANEL UP/DOWN buttons and press power.
3. All Clear should appear on the screen.

Use caution, however, as this will erase all the settings in your receiver.
