SOURCE: My john deere 316 tractor will start but the starter keeps spinning, even if I turn off and remove key. I must disconnect battery at times to stop the starter. Any ideas?

It's not your switch, it's your starter solenoid sticking open. Te same way the starter spins a gear up to the flywheel an retracts it when it's not receiving power, the solenoid has an electrically operated contact toggle switch inside that over years of use and very likely corrosion, has now stuck in the open or on position. Replace it, they're really cheap and extremely universal. It's a simple design so they're used in automotive applications very commonly.

SOURCE: John Deere Tractor...If you put a battery with more cranking amps than what's called for will it blow fuses? When we start the mower it continues to blow fuses. This was after the battery change.

NO
a battery with a higher crank specification only means that you can spin the engine for longer before the battery goes flat
blowing fuses is from a dead short in the wiring, battery connect up wrong, problem relays
basically the positive of the battery is through the fuse) connected directly to ground at some point

I have a sabre garden tractor that keeps blowing the fuse for the ignition i found no bare wiring anywhere.

The only reason a fuse blows is because it got overloaded(too much amps). Most lawn/garden tractors use separate soleniod for the starter and you said it blows a fuse as soon as you turn on the key. At that point the starter wouldn't(or shouldn't) have any current to it at all. A stuck on soleniod would keep the starter engaged till you unhooked one of the battery cables. Find what that fuse protects in electrical system and start looking for bare wires, maybe a wire has rubbed through where it's laying against metal

30 amp Starter/Ignition fuse keeps blowing when i turn the ignition key. The instrumentpanel lights are dim and then the fuse blows.

I am assuming you are talking about the circuit that powers the key switch. I'm showing a fuseable link to the starter relay instead of a fuse.
If it is the circuit that powers the switch, I would disconnect the switch and see if the fuse blows as each circuit is powered one at a time using a jumper wire. You can get 30amp circuit breakers that plug into the fuse slot to use while you are testing circuits.
You may need a repair book or shop manual to find out what is powered by that fuse since it is most everything on the car.

Every time I turn the key to start the motor it blows the 30 amp fuse what is the cause and how do I fix it

if the fuse is blowing when you turn key to start position then this is where to look for the fault ,between the ignition switch and the relay then the other side of the relay to the starter motor solonoid

Craftsman garden tractor Mod # 917.257740 blows main fuse.

Try checking the battery - make sure it is not under rated - over rated and be sure the starter it's self isn't drawing too much amperage.
the battery may need replacing and for a temp fix - put in a larger fuse - say 50 amp.

My riding mower blows fuses once you turn the key.

Sounds like you are on the right path, maybe some wires on the ignition were replaced backward, and you are sending +12v directly to ground? Does it blow right away?

30 amp ignition fuse in engine compartment blows at start

It sounds like a bad ignition switch or something is grounding out.Try to isolate the problem to key positions.See if the fuse blows when you turn the key to ACC(when your dash lights come on without starting)If the fuse does not blow then when you go to start it and it blows it could be one of many problems, the more common ones could be ignition switch, wiring, starter relay, starter soleniod,or perhaps the starter itself is shorting out, this can sometimes happen when a starter goes bad.

30 amp fuse blows when trying to start engine

I always start by unplugging lights, kill wire to coil electric clutch if it has one ,sometime its the fuel shut off solenoid on the bottom of carb if it has one.
You can keep trying until you find the thing that does not blow a fuse or use an ohm meter to read from pos cable to ground of tractor unhook ground wire to battery you will read short to ground thru coil kill wire, starter solenoid small wire on spade, fuel shut off
solenoid ,electric clutch ,rectifier (charging system )and large wire to starter thats why I unplug them .
I have seen more shorts from lights , fuel shut off solenoid , charging system. not ing coil not safety switches not even bad starters.
good luck
