Question about Harbinger HA120 Portable PA System

Open Question

Not getting enough volume out of PA system

Out of nowhere I stopped getting power out of my PA. No idea what the problem is. I can get a little volume but I have to crank it to 11 in order to get anything that I can hear, then it distorts. I've tried unplugging everything but still can't get hardly any sound.

SOURCE: I have the Harbinger HA120

You need to do some test on the equipment. First check the resistance of each speaker. You may have a bad cable... and yes you can destroy the speakers with too loud a signal... HOWEVER if the system is made to work together this is USUALLY not a problem.

How to get sound from a nady audio 4130 mpm 4 channel power mixer

First, plug it in. Next connect the speakers. Center all eq controls both master and channel. Turn off any reverb or effects. Turn the master volume 1/2 way up. Plug a sound source into channel 1 wiyj the channel volume all the way off. Turn on the amp. Slowly raise the channel volume until you heat output. If you get nothing, it's broken.

Power light is on but no speaker output?

Disassemble it enough to get to the speaker to check for continuity. If it's blown, replace it, If not, the amp board is probably blown and needs to go in for repair.

Using Boss FV 50H between output of Tascam M-216 mixer and church PA (line input of main mixer) with microphones on 1 channel and guitars on other. Problem:Quite a loud "pop" or...

The problem is you have an ILLEGAL connection based on proper electronic design. This pedal has UNBALANCED high impedance interconnects and the output of your mixer and the PA SHOULD be BALANCED low impedance interconnects. This makes the system subject to noise and you may even get static discharge noise. Also verify that the TASCAM and the PA system are ALL powered from the SAME receptacle or power conditioning module. This is a tough design problem to achieve what you want. Essentially you want to make the master gain of the TASCAM on a foot pedal as I understand it. There is one pedal that CLAIMS to have balanced in and out and if I had the schematic I could verify it... but I could not find the schematic in my searches... look at: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/StealthPedal
This one MIGHT do the job right. You MUST use TRS BALANCED cables, NOT TS, from the mixer to this and from this to the PA. Do research on BALANCED and UNBALANCED and TRS and TS and also XLR cables using google to understand the difference and importance of using balanced interconnections in your system. I would try to get one of these pedals on approval with the correct cables and test it.

I have a Eupoport EPA 900 system. Recently I started getting a consistent, low pitch and fairly loud hum out of both speakers. The hum adjusts with the volume, and I have tested it with various working...

Is the hum there with NO input cables connected? If not, you have bad cabling. Make sure you use only XLR to XLR mic cables and not the junky ones with a 1/4 inch plug that are for Karaoke machines. These devices usually use switching power supplies and do not have the power supply originating hum of older equipment. If the volume control adjusts the hum, then the hum originates previous to the control which is either in the preamps or the external inputs.

The MPM4130X works for several months then decides to blow fuses. This has happened twice now, so I suspect a design flaw. If I could get a schematic, I could possibly design in a little more margin to...

If ONLY the fuse blows and replacing it restores operation I would suspect an operational problem. Possibilities... does a speaker lead get grounded? Can the microphones hear the speakers? This latter is important because a supersonic feedback could occur that you can't hear but overheats the amplifiers. DO NOT boost the highs with EQ to avoid this possibility. Always check that the speaker leads are secure before power the unit up. 1/4 inch plugs/jacks are notorious as speaker connections due to the shorting possibility. You MAY have to go through the manufacturer to get schematic.

It sounds like the power supply is overheating, or an interconnect is becoming loose due to excess heat. This might be due to a faulty heat sensor, but counter-intuitively could also be due to a low voltage supply, that is, drawing more power than the circuit can handle so the voltage drops. Please check that the outlet(s) you are plugging in to are rated to supply enough power.

It just doesn't have enough power for what you want. Either get a bigger version amp OR mic it and run it into the PA system where hopefully you have enough power.

Sound is distorted at certain frequency / volume what would cause this?

More infornation is required to provide a real answer, but I can give you a few possibilities:

1) There is a problem within the feedback loop that is allowing some frequencies through. This will be more prevelant at higher volume levels.

2) If there is a tube pre-amp section, the tube can be "microphonic". This too is generally more likely at higher volume levels.

3) Defective components in the amp section. These may pass some DC voltages that will sound like distortion.

If you can, please experiment a little to try to find when the problem is most obvious. With more details about when the problem occurs may give us enough info to determine the cause. Otherwise a trip to a service shop that has access to test equipment will be required.

The main mix controls ALL outputs simultaneously.

The mic channels are controlled individually by the sliders.

It sounds like you are on the verge of feedback where the mics are picking up the PA speakers.

Make sure you have loaded the support SW and make sure you have disabled ECHO as the mics may be looping back through the computer causing the rattle.
