Question about Philips 42PFL5603D 42 in. LCD HDTV

Open Question

Philips 42PFL5603D keeps switching itself on and off

Turned our tv on this morning and it had a black/grey cloud in the middle of the screen. We've tried turning the brightness up and down to see if that will help but it hasn't made a difference. All the tubes are still fully lit so I don't think it is that. It's now switching itself on and off. Anyone else had this problem and if so if there a solution??? Many Thanks

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

SOURCE: Philips flat screen TV MODEL ID 19PFL5422D/27

I bought the television less than a year ago, so I called Philips Magnavox and they asked for the serial and model numbers. Next thing I know they asked for my name and address and Philips is sending a brand new television to replace it !!! The new one should arrive in about ten days. How's that for service? I'm very happy that I bought Philips and I will do so again. So don't forget to keep all the paper work that comes with your new televisions, especially Model and Serial numbers ! Thanks for asking , Debbie Hoffman

You have sound but no picture. Green power light is on and NOT flashing. You get a screen flash or flicker on power-up or even a minute of screen before going all black. It is your inverter board. Common problem on LCDs (maybe more so on Phillips?). They are easy to replace (unplug-plug) and are available on the net.

Screen keeps going black then grey and white lines start to come across the screen.

This is not the fault with remote control. It is with your TV itself. Contact any service technician.

Philips 42pfl5603d/7 turns off and on by itself then turns blue in a matter of a few minutes of being turned on.

The main power regulator board should be checked for any loose solder terminals. Re-solder all the suspected solder terminals there. If you are not familiar with electronics, do not attempt to repair! Whether you suffer fatal electrical shock! Instead, contact the nearest service center!

When i turn on my tv it stays on the philips screen. never goes to tv. i tried unplugging it and leaving it unplugged for an hour, no help

You give insufficient information to provide you with a more streamlined solution, so excluse me for being too brief.

What I'd do if I were you is to try and re-flash (update) the firmware in your TV.

if that doesn't help you'll likely need a new main board.

TO update the firmware you'd need the exact model of your Philips. 42PFL5603D has two versions - /F7 and /27.

The update for the first is at
http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=42PFL5603D/F7&slg=en&scy=US&mid=Link_Software

The second is at
http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=42PFL5603D/27&slg=en&scy=US&mid=Link_Software

Those are Philips provided and supported pages, so you should be able to find your way around there.

Hope this helps. If it does, please rate it with thumbs up - we need your votes if we can't get your money :-)

Toshiba TV colours wrong pink sky, blue clouds and green people??

Inside your TV there is like a loop of insulated wirings the loop around the screen. This is to demagnetized the tube. There is a varistor which looks like a thick coin with two leads on it, or sometimes it looks like a flat ceramic capacitor that control this loop of wire. When you first turn on your TV current goes through the loop of wires to demagnetize the TV then the varistor shuts off. Sometimes this varistor fails, causing smeard colors. You can also demagnetize the screen without opening the TV. Using a hand held demagnetizer. It can be purchased at some electronic parts store.
