SOURCE: GE Profile XL Spacemaker microwave oven

I would first advise you to check the waveguide cover. This is probbaly a large one, covering the ceiling of the microwave.

If there is grease or food debris on it or above it, using the microwave can cause it to arc and smoke.

Otherwise, it may be a problem with the high voltage transformer or magnetron. It would have to be checked.

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

SOURCE: Microwave working when door opens

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch or a loose door switch mount, which are pretty simple problems to fix.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you only need a switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.

If you think the problem is on the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: GE Profile Microwave will not heat

Unfortunately, there is no way to tell which part the microwave needs without opening it up for examination. There are a few parts that, if defective, would prevent the oven from heating.

  • a high voltage transformer which passes energy to the magnetron
  • a magnetron which converts high-voltage electric energy to microwave radiation
  • a magnetron control circuit (usually with a microcontroller)
This is NOT a repair that you would want to attempt yourself. The labor for the repair would cost a minimum of $50 and shouldn't exceed $100. You'll also have to pay for the necessary part if it's still available from the manufacture or their parts distributor.

SOURCE: The interior light is out on our GE Profile Sensor

You have to remove the outer cover to replace the bulb in this model.

The bulb is located in the air duct that covers the magnetron on the right side of the unit.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven (entered as JE1860CB01 without spaces) here.

See these links before proceeding:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt

The screws you need to remove should be pretty obvious, but a special driver (such as a T20H type or GTXH20-100) may be needed.

Be sure to put all the screws back in the right holes, since some may be special grounding screws.

Bulbs can be had locally in most grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box or department stores or you can order them ahead of time here.

There are three likely causes, open magnetron, cracked high voltage diode, or a shorted high voltage capacitor.

I have a JE 1590 GE microwave oven and the lights /turn table/time all works but it does not heat at all. We just used it yesterday and it worked great!

It is probably a part in the high voltage section. Mainly the High voltage diode, capacitor or magnetron. The first two are fairly cheap to replace, but the magnetron can be expensive.

Have ge profile spacesaver xl sensor. will not heat strange buzzing sound and burning smell. clock, light, vent still work

This is most likely a defective magnetron, especially with the burning smell. There are two other parts that can be a problem, the high voltage capacitor and diode, all three work together to heat food. If the magnetron is the culprit, probably cheaper to replace the microwave oven.

I have a replacement magenetron and diode for a GE Profile undercabinet microwave. Can you share the step by step instructions for replacing it? Model number JVM 3670

Disconnect the power source.
Remove the cabinet to reveal the wiring.
Locate the large transformer. Next to the transformer is the magnetron and diode assembly. MAKE SURE THE CAPACITOR IS DISCHARGED AS LETHAL VOLTAGES ARE HERE!
Disconnect the diode and remember where the connections came from, (a phone camera is useful for this job). Remove the magnetron.
Replace the magnetron and fit the diode pack.
Replace the cabinet and test by placing 1/2 litre of water in the machine, having first measured the temperature of the water.
Microwave for 1 minute.
The water should have increased in temperature by at least 10degrees Celcius. If it has, it is to specification and you have repaired your microwave oven.

All features of oven work normally but there is no heat and nothing cooks. What is causing this?

Mostlikely the magnetron circuit has failed. The magnetron is the part the makes the microwaves that heat the food. It can be pricely to repair and if the magnetron needs to be replaced, the cost of replacement typically is about the same as buying a new oven. Sorry.

No heat

If the fan, lites, all work and appears to be running normal but just no heat, chances are its the magnetron that has failed. Sometimes magnetron will make a deeper noise if it has failed

GE PROFILE PURCHASED 2006 RUNS BUT NO HEAT MICRO/CONV MODEL JEB1095BB

HI. in most cases, this will lead to a failed Heating device(magnetron tube). It would be wise to check the Magnetron cutoff fuse to be sure of its integrity. if the fuse is blown, simply replace it. if the fuse continues to show continuity, replace the magnetron.

(((The fuse is located inside the unit along side the magnetron)))

GE Over-the-Stove Profile Microwave

GE had a rash of "underperforming" magnetrons on these units. They replace the magnetron, stirrer and high-voltage diode at no charge for parts as long as a GE-authorized service center does the work. Sometimes the unit gets run too long in a failing state and the waveguide and chassis of the oven get damaged. To see if yours is covered, see this bulletin: http://www.microwavedisplay.com/ge_mw_mag_kit_bulletin.pdf Otherwise, you need to contact GE Customer Relations at 1-800-386-1215 as soon as possible and tell them your problem and they will put you in touch with a local authorized servicer.
