The GoPro2 series, at least, will shut down due to internal temperature exceeding 120 deg F. It generates a lot of heat when it's recording, and it will cool down when it shuts itself off. But mine doesn't automatically restart once it's cooled. Might try blocking direct sunshine and/or putting it in cooler air flow.

I'm trying to record video on my go pro hero 2 without audio. I just need video. Not audio. Thanks

There is no feature to turn off the audio. you just have to use their software GoPro Cineform studio and remove the audio when editing the video.

Hero 3 only records for 14 seconds every time

Delete all files and reformat your SD card using the settings option on your GoPro Hero camera. I did and all is back to normal.

My sdhc card shows a 'locked' icon when i put it into my gopro 2 recorder

SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Hi , i have a problem with my gopro hero.. when i want to record a video , it records very fastly.. for example we record 1 minute , it records for 3 seconds.. i have the sdhc 8gb class 4 memory stick.....

this could be a problem on your pc, I have had this issue on a notebook but when i went onto my pc with more ram it worked ok. also it may depend on which codec is being used on your pc to view the mpg4 files, I have also noted that as well as fast speeds that the sound was out of sync.

When i am in video mode, my camera only records for 60 seconds then it stops and i have to hit record again. Is there a setting i need to change to fix this problem? its very frustrating

Is it EXACTLY 60 seconds EVERY time? If so, it sounds like a preference setting (probably default). Try going to the Menu section and look for a "Setup" routine and see if there is a "Max. Record Time" (or something similar) setting. Change as desired. Usually there is a choice for the maximum capacity of your recording media, SD card or whatever. If it starts out ending at 60 seconds and gets progressively shorter with each recording cycle, it may need recharging. Good luck. *Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, despite the handle. For my first generation GoPro camera, do I need a memory card with a class rating higher than a 2 to have better quality videos. Also my camera seems to have a mind of its own and shuts down after about 30...

A Class 6 memory card is required for recording HD quality video. Not sure if yours is HD or not. Anything lower than Class 6 (such as Class 4 or Class 2) will result in recording issues and possibly skipping some video here & there.

As for the 30 seconds of filming limit...

1) It may be the memory card...that is if it's lower than Class 6. As a rule of thumb, when it doubt, buy Class 6 or better. Class 10 is the next step up, but it's a quite a bit more expensive.

2) Make sure you are using good, Lithium batteries...not Alkaline. Alkaline batteries will shut the camera down after a very short period.

Here are more tips on shortened recordings from GoPro's Website, followed by their Support Contact Info:

The batteries do not last very long.
  • It is not recommended that you use Alkaline batteries. Lithium batteries have the best results and longest battery life. Rechargeable NiMH are another option in mild weather.
  • Is it cold out? Battery life can definitely be affected by the cold! Please make sure you only use Energizer Lithium batteries in the cold, as any other battery type will perform poorly. In cold temps, you can expect about half of the normal run time when using the Energizer Lithium batteries.
  • Still having shortened records with a good set of the recommended batteries? Please email our support team through http://gopro.com/support for further assistance.

My gopro surf hero won't record.it turns on,everything works except it does not record nor takes photos

Be sure to have fully charged batteries and format your SD card using the FAT format. Start by taking the batteries and SD card out, then reinserting after at least 30 second. Here's an unofficial GoPro user guide and tip sheet that I hope helps. Please only apply the GoPro firmware update to GoPro Hero Wide cameras - not the Hero 3 or standard lens models.
