Question about Dell XPS M1330 Notebook
Pull the AC plug. What is the trouble? Shut down unnessary startup programs, run a Malware scan, run a up-to-date Anti Virus scan, clean the junk from your machine. Use freeware, CCLEANER and MALWAREBYTES at : http://www.filehippo.com/

Try this, just to see if the shutdown actually works.
Open a command prompt and enter the following:
shutdown -s -t 05
-s is to shutdown, -t 05 is a 5 second countdown. Let me know if it actually shuts down.

This model laptop uses a CCFL lamp for the backlight, it does not use LEDs for backlighting.
The CCFL lamp is attached to an inverter which supplies high voltage to this lamp.
For details on how to install and or replace CCFL lamps go to
www.lcdparts.net for information and parts.
I assume you are not replacing the whole LCD screen.

There is no generic password.
If you are the original owner or if you know who the original owner is Dell can help you to remove the password for free.
Otherwise a tech will need to remove it and they usually charge $50-100 for something like that.

It could be overheating, and then shutting itself down, to prevent damage.
Restart, and enter SETUP mode, and choose the "System Health Info" setting, to find the internal temperatures.
Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the battery.
Buy a can of compressed air.
Follow the directions to keep the can "vertical",
and give a "blow-job" of compressed air into every port and access-door that you can find on the laptop.
You could be surprised at how much "dust" (and dog-hair) that the blow-job removes.
