Oil might help but it sounds like you don't have enough pressure on the foot. You can take the casing off where the light is and there is a screw back there that controls the tension on the pressure foot. It is not meant to be changed by anyone but a professional. I've changed the tension but it wasn't easy. If you are still interested let me know and I will try to explain.

The needle holder has a screw right above the screw that holds the needle in place. It really doesn't look like a screw because it does not appear to have a slot for a screwdriver. However, with a small flat head screw driver you can tighten it up. There is also a curverd wire that must be inserted into a slot at the bottom of the holder. The screw tightens against the wire that tightens against the post. (It's a curved wire that curves around the front part). The above info that was previously posted was almost dead on for me. The screw spoken about is called a set screw, which is a screw that is almost hollow. To lossen or tighten a set screw you use an allen wrench. The one on this machine is 5/64 th size. You can use a very small screwdriver if it fits tightly, but you must be careful not to strip the inside of the screw.

Keep trying.
If you still cannot get it back on, call a local sewing machine dealer to see if someone can look at it without having to leave the machine.
