Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
Since using some refurb toner cartridges my HP 2840 Color laserjet will not recognize any new toner cartridges. The display simply shows a question mark ('?'') in the display area where the toner cartridge fill level is normally displayed. I have tried authentic HP toner cartridges and it still won't recognize the toner cartridge.

If its not recognizing the cartridge you probably need to go inside and clean the contacts. Best thing to use is ordinary rubbing alcohol but you should also get a can of dry air from best buy or similar place to blow out any areas you can reach. You can also navigate through the menu and go into toner override mode. That allows you to print without being bothered by low/empty toner messages

There is a small spring that holds the ink cartridge in the ink holder. You will see it stick out from the right hand side of the ink holder where the ink cartridge slides in. If that spring isn't being held to the ink holder by two plastic tabs, (I.E. the plastic tabs are broken) the printer will never recognize the cartridge. If the printer is still under warranty I would contact HP or an authorized repair center for HP. Both the black and color ink holder has this spring. I know of no way to repair this kind of breakage.
