Hi,

this issue could little complicated, that happens becoz there would be a lubricating coat on the carriage rod to it to move freely. if thats gone u would have this kind of issue. try apply any lubricator, make sure u dont spill it inside the machine, just apply little bit,it should resolve the issue.

The power light is flashing and the printer makes a grinding noise and won't print. There was a paper jam that i had to pull out prior to this issue.

Hello According to HP, follow these steps for resolving the issue
Remove the rear access door, or the automatic two-sided printing accessory, and check for any paper jams or paper obstructions. Remove any obstructions. Check to make certain the carriage is on the right side of the printer. Rotate the rear paper guide rollers upwards five times, then downwards four times. If the rollers will not move, open the top cover and slide the carriage to the right (if it is not already there and if carriage can move). Try to roll the rollers again while pushing the clutch in. If the rollers do not move, continue on to the next step. Figure Location of the clutch c00040832.gif Replace the rear access door accessory, or the automatic two-sided printing accessory. Close the top cover. Plug the power cable back in. Turn the printer on, and replace the cartridges if possible. If the carriage moves, but there is still a grinding noise, there may be a paper feed issue. If the carriage will not move, then it is a carriage stall issue. After installing the cartridge, if the printer has a solid power light, perform a self-test on the printer. Hope this helps, if so do rate the solution

The printer cartridges do not move from left to right. makes a grinding noise

The mechanism on which the cartridges slide has a strip and wheels on both sides of the printer... one of these things causes the jam.

Try maneuvering it manually and see if the problem solves.

My printer is making a weird noise and the power light just blinks

Turn off the Printer
open the Front access Door, Check if there is bits of paper or dirt on the ROD that moves the Cartrige/carriage.
Move the Carriage freely 5-6 times from left to right ( it should move smoothly )
Remove the Cartridges, Clean the contacts on the Cartridge ( golden Contacts)
Open the Rear Access door, Clean the Rollers with lint free cloth.
Close the Rear access door and front door
Power on the Printer. If the grinding noise continues, Unplug the power cable from back of printer ( while printer is on ) and while holding the # and 6 button, connect it back.
It should go thru alignment process and the grinding noise should be gone. If it doesnt, probably.. its time for new printer of HP again.

Error message with grinding noise as driver cycles

Make sure the little spring loaded side fingers that grab and hold the cart onto the printhead are not broken. With the unit off, slowly move the carriage all the way left then right to check for a good belt and free movement. Take the carts out and tilt the printer back and forth to see if something has broken off inside, check to make sure nothing has fallen into the paper rollers from behind.

I replaced my color cartridge on my HP Photosmart C3100 series printer and now it is making a grinding sound, but prints perfectly fine - what is the problem?

You would want to try and reinstall the print cartridges. It is possible that something is just stuck that is why you are hearing the grinding sound.
Let me know.

Dell 942 carrier jam

This morning I replaced the cartridges in the Dell 942 printer, they jammed to the left which made a loud grinding noise and the cartridge jam error came on.

I solved the problem by turning the printer on with the top up which moved the cartridges to the right a little so I could reach back, push one down a little manually which freed them to move over to the middle.

Paper transport does not work; terrible grinding noise

I took mine apart from the back and put it back together and it worked. It is probably due to moving it and the bottom paper tray alignment gets out of whack. I inspected all of the gear train and didn't find any worn or missing teeth. I suspect a paper jam started it and the user turned the printer around to open the back door. Since the handles are on the printer the tray doesn't move with it which allows it to separate and possibly jam a pickup drive gear.

Check with a torch for a jam, small paper or foreign matter, use a torch, check very carefully and make sure you check paper feeder, and near carriage.
