Unplug and drain it, IT is easier to drain if you use a wet and dry vacuum. Get some towels ready and unhook the water supply hoses. Lay the unit down on its side or back and you can then see the shocks and springs and bumpers by looking into the bottom of it. Some machines allow you top open the top cover where the lid is.

Hello, Thank You for using FixYa. I will be helping you today.Check the lid switch it wont drain or spin if its bad. Here are directions to open the unit...
2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws from each side of the rear corners of the console. NOTE: On some latest models there are no screws (big saving for Whirlpool). Instead there is a console clip on each side of the console which should be carefully released by inserting a putty knife under the console from the front on each side.
3. Pull the console forward and up to remove the tabs on the bottom of the end caps, out of the holes in the top.
4. Lift the console up and lay it on its back.
5. Unplug the harness connector for the lid switch.
6. Insert a flat screwdriver into the front edge of the clip (located on both sides), and pry back. Remove both clips from the holes in the cabinet and slide down the other end of the clips and out the slot in the rear panel.
7. Open and hold the lid while grabbing the cabinet front opening. Be sure when tilting the cabinet that the back edge clears the vacuum break.
8. Tilt the top of the cabinet toward you by pulling on the lid and opening of the cabinet. This releases the back slots of the cabinet from the tabs in the back of the base
9. Carefully pull the cabinet away from the base of the washer and set it aside.

Whirlpool design 2000 is imbalanced eery load - moves around violently, makes pounding noises.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. You need to check the suspension of the washer and make sure everything is intact. Now, if the washer is thumping during spinning, this is probably the motor drive or the spin bearing. This would cause a lot of noise. Your washer will act up if it is not balanced right. Check the floor and make sure it is level. If that checks out, look into the motor drive and bearings. The motor drive controls the spinning.

My Whirlpool front load washer is out of balance when spinning. It makes a loud noise. How do I get the tub back in balance? GHW9200LQ is the model.

Whirlpool front load washers have shock absorbers that helps them in moving the washer around the place. Due to regular usage of the washer it may tend to break. This will result in drum hammering sound . To clear this problem pull the bottom front off and check the shocks. Typically the rings where the pins go through are where they will break. You have to grab them and should have a complete check by moving them to see that whether they are broken.
Thank you !!

My washer is out of balance when spinning.

Your problem is probably much more than the washer being out of balance. The front load washers have shock absorbers that hold them from moving all over the place. These have a habit of breaking. Then the drum hammers and sounds like things are flying apart. Pull the bottom front off and check the shocks. Typically the rings where the pins go throuhg are where they will break. Sometimes at first they look okay and you have to grab them and move them to see that they are broken.

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

Wont drain or spin

sounds like a broken lid switch
when you open your lid,
if it opens by the side and not the front there is an oval hole in the cabinet.
this is the lid switch, if it is not there its broken,
even if it is there, it could be broken, press in the hole with a pen. listen for a click.
the part is about 35$ and easy to change
if there are no children in the household it can be bypassed as well
