I would prefer guide below or another methods are proposed from different sources over Internet, but in case the guide from MS Corporation can't handle the problem
In the File name: box, enter the text in bold to display a list of the automatically saved files (if any). You can also copy and paste this text into the File name: box.
PowerPoint 2007: %temp%\ppt*.tmp
Click the Open button.
Click the name of the file that you want to recover, and then click Open.
Note : The automatically saved files may not be named in a descriptive way. Continue to open files until you find the one you are looking for.
After you find the file, click Save. Then save the file to your My Documents or other location.
Yes Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 can be open in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007But Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 cannot be open in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 Thanks for using FixYa All the Best!
Here is what I would do to get you up and working again. I would sign up with Windows Live services its a combined E mail, file storage, office platform. It operates in a " cloud " IE in a web browser through the internet. After signing up for Live you can login and up at the top their is an Office Button. This button will allow you to use some office applications through the cloud server; Word,Excel,Powerpoint, and OneNote. To open the powerpoint on Live you have to start a new presentation but I believe after Powerpoint loads you can instruct it to open your project to edit as you would on Powerpoint installed on your PC. I hope this helps you some and gets your project on its way. I would recommend trying out Open Office its a free MS Office like alternative and its surprisingly compatible with MS Office as well. Good luck and I hope you get this problem solved.

Microsoft PowerPoint is a presentation program developed by Microsoft. It is part of the Microsoft Office system, and runs on Microsoft Windows and the Mac OS computer operating systems. The Windows version can run in Linux operating system, under the Wine compatibility layer. PowerPoint is widely used by business people, educators, students, and trainers and is among the most prevalent forms of persuasive technology.Beginning with Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft revised the branding toemphasize PowerPoint's place within the office suite, calling itMicrosoft Office PowerPoint instead of just Microsoft PowerPoint. Thecurrent versions are Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 for Windows and2008 for Mac.
