Question about Kohler K 304 Rite Temp Pressure Balancing Valve
As I turn on my Kohler Forte Shower (Rite Temp(?) mixing valve, the water starts off cold, and stays cold as I move the handle towards hot. At around mid point where you expect the water to be getting WARM, I hear a "clunk", and then the water goes to full hot. Any ideas?

Just had this same thing, on this exact faucet. If you still have the manual, it has instructions on how to rotate the valve for back to back installations where one shower has the hot/cold reversed. Our contractor got ours in backwards the first time and I had to call and have them come out and rotate the valve this morning.

Testimonial: "Thanks! That worked!"
If this is a new installation and has always beenj this way, then I would suspect that there may be an obstruction in the cold water line leading to the valve. Or something stuck in the valve at the point where the cold water is connected. If someone has worked on thius valve recently , then I would suspect that they got the valve cartridge in backwards, If the catridge is not placed in the valve correctly the opperation is messed up.

SOURCE: I have a Kohler
The problem is that the pressure balance unit is stuck...therefore no hot water...it is not sensing the cold water pressure....so it will not allow hot water to flow...
The lack of use is actually a bad thing as the rubber and such can adhere to the metal and stick the unit...
You maybe able to free it up, but it probably will never work correctly...
I would just replace the pressure balance unit to be sure that it is working correctly and safely...
