Intel 946 mother board

You need at least 1GB of Ram Memory, and should have 2GB.
[512MB + 512MB = 1024MB or also stated as 1GB ]

The - Intel 946 - designator you have listed refers to the motherboard chipset.
It is either an Intel 946PL, or Intel 946GZ motherboard chipset,

You can see the list of processors it supports. Also look at the Front Side Bus speed it supports (FSB), and note 65nm architecture for the processor.

As for office work, or surfing the internet; more Ram Memory will help.
For editing videos, or intense games though, you need a decent graphics card.

How to make my PC run faster?

I would upgrade your ram to at least 1GB of ram or more, "the higher the better" ram memory will make the computer considerabily faster. Plus a Video Graphics Card with one 1GB of ram will free up resources in your computer and increase performance.

My HP mini is slow and skype does not work on it

a) I suggest you to delete all the temporary files, cookies and history.
Check the available physical memory on your PC and increase if its very slow. If required increase the RAM. You can able to download free software to delete the temporary files on your PC.

b) In some PC's the new version of skype is not working. If you installed that new version just remove it and try the earlier version and check whether that's working or not.

Please let me know for further assistance.

I have g460 lappy of i5,4GB ram,win7 pro- 64 bit, nvidia graphic driver is not installing and the scroll bar on touch pad is also not working

Nvidia installations usually must be carried out with a large exe type file to install it.
Browse for driver support.
Hope that helps

Any way to make Win 2000 laptop faster? How about XP?

currently the order of "fast windows" are this
2000/ME/and others

xp and up are the "supported" versions of windows.

stay away from media center editions those are nice for fast power systems that focus on media and not speed of office programs.

linux is as fast or slow as you want it, there are live CD's that can be installed onto a usb key to test the system first... but it is more difficult to install and manage.

i would say spend some time with "msconfig". (type msconfig into a run box) that util will allow you to disable programs from starting up at boot. and thus not run constantly in the background. a well configured Vista system can run faster than a poorly configured XP system on the same hardware. still need more speed insure there are no spyware on the system and upgrade the ram. (best spy ware remover is spybot)

So many resion for system slowness, firsly depends on your system configuration,
booting depends upon your system RAM,how much RAM you user in system, min 1GB RAM require for smoth booting.second one is overload (tmp, recent, temparary internet files, cooks),delete all the files and restart the system.

check it issue will be fix, otherwise there was a problem with OS.
backup all the C drive data on anohter drive and reinstall OS in C drive.
