First you Should try a known good mic into whatever is doing the "detecting" to eliminate the thought of anything being wrong past there. Then you also know the cable is good. If it does not detect a known good mic and mic cable please post model of whatever your plugging into.

Does the mic use batteries? Does it have a on switch?
If no can you try the mic in a different computer?
If no it's probably bad.
Also check in device manager when you plug it in. If you see a yellow ? or ! right click on it and comment with the status code.

most of some notebook computer had only mic capturing, when you talk someone on voicechat, they heard you but you can't hear on your notebook built-i speaker. if you want to check., if your mic is ok...try to record voice....using sound recorder of Windows.

Have you tried downloading/reinstalling the drivers for the mic? If not, go to toshiba support download page, put in your systems model number and install. This should correct your problem.

1. click on the start button on the windows screen
2. program, then accessories, then Entertainment, then volume controller
3. select option,then properties
4. select mic check box to activate your mix option in the volume controller then ok
5. you can increase your mike volume and you can put it on mute option etc..

try this, hope this will help you out.

Uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers. That should fix it. Also check in Audio/Sound properties in Control panel under Recording and check if the Array mic is detected and set as default. Try downloading "http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R171786.exe"

My laptop model is compaq presario c754tu, I have installed Windows Vista Business, and the audio is working fine, but the internal mic and external microphone both work together........i want to mute the internal mic..... how i can do it ? please reply me on my email id i.e. [email protected]
