I want to add jumping rope to my workout. Should I buy a weighted jump ropes?

Yes, its a great idea. I use jump rope everyday, it involve your whole body. A weighted rope will strengthen your arms and help you burn more calories.

I got a weighted rope because I am trying to lose weight and gain strength. This type of rope needs a lot of upper body strength and it makes you lose more calories during the same workout. It comes with 1-6 pound weights.

My everlast weighted skipping rope tangles

if your rope is tangling, either you bought it with kinks in it or you're not taking proper care or the rope. if the tangles aren't too serious try swinging the rope hard(er) before or during your skipping routine, and when you're done using it hang it some kind or protrusion sticking outta your wall such as a nail. If the tangling is serious try boiling some water, pour it in a container and putting the rope inside the water to soak for about 15 mins then take it out and try to stretch the rope back to it's original condition. I wanna advise caution to this final suggestion because i've never tried this before and i don't you or anyone else to burn themselves or melt there rope, if you don't think the material of your rope will withstand the heat shorten the amount of time the rope's in the water or don't do it at all, if all else fails just buy another jump rope

What is a jump rope workout for a beginner?

I jump for 30 seconds and then rest for 60 seconds and do this about 3-4 times in a row. I do this 3 times a week with a day break between each workout. Once I manage to do this without dying, I'll start jumping for longer amounts of time before taking a break.

Do I need a mat to jump rope?

No you don't. I jump rope on concrete usually because I live in a city without any nearby parks. It is less slippery than grass and you can jump really fast because concrete gives you a quick rebound. A mat though will absorb some of the impact when you jump that concrete won't. Mats are not firm so they require more effort to jump up from. This is a better workout for the calves but less of a cardio workout because you can't go as fast. Sand is a great jumping surface but I live nowhere near a beach. It is soft so reduces the impact. It requires effort to jump off but when you land, you can still jump up quickly, unlike mats. Sand is soft also, so you won't hurt yourself. I hope you live near a beach!

This will depend on your weight, the amount of time you exercised, and the intensity. I weigh 190 pounds and usually jump rope for 1hour at an intensive speed . I usually burn about 1035 calories a workout. At a slower pace, I would only burn 690 calories. My workout buddy weighs 150 and usually burns about 730 calories in 1hour.

Jump ropesnormally cost between $10-$20 depending mainly on the brand. In a few cases,(like with the Everlast jump rope), materials play a role in the price as well.For example, the Everlast jump rope is made of leather (more expensive thanrubber).

My jump rope came all rolled up in the package. Now it wants to stay in the twisted shape it was when I got it. The result is that I can only jump a few times before it twists on itself and trips me or...

the only thing that I can think of doing is to hang the jump rope over a beam in the house or garage and tape light weights to the handles and let it hang there for a day or two,,, this should straighten out the rope. NOTE : when hanging the rope over the beam -- take a towel and fold it up many times and place this on the beam first before you put the rope on it,, this will make sure the rope takes a nice slow gentle bend down to the floor ( not creasing it ) ---if a beam is not availible you could get the same effect by drapping it over a closet/bedroom door --- don't forget your towel ).
