Re: Error 5100 on PIXMA MP470
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off.
I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with
the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the
printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

This error 5100 that you are getting could be as simple as a loose cartridge. Take the
cartridges out and put them back in making sure they snap in. There's also a possibility that there's something inside that is obstructing your print cartridge. To take a look on this, took the back off with three screws, then the side panel. You have to take the trim off, there's one screw. Look for the little arrows that show where the tabs are that slide
into the side of the printer itself. Use a screwdriver to unsnap them. Tip your printer side ways and check if there's any obstruction in there. Remove it and put your printer back together.
HI: 5100 is a carriage error, check the timing strip for contamination(plastic strip about 1/4" in width) The unit is not homing, check for obstructions. This error means that there is something obstructing the printing process. Check inside your printer through the gears that you can see under the lid. There should be something obstructing the gears such as dirt or in my case popcorn. There was even some paper caught underneath the rollers that I had to jiggle around to even see. Check VERY thoroughly.
Hi You can Try
Error Code 5100
Seen this many times Solution 1: Clean the timing strip.
Solution 2: The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .
Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism. All The Best: Pineworks
How I can fix the U051 problem with my conno : MP470 printer ? It says the print head is not installed. Install the print head. Where is the it , and how I can fix it?
