I have a Mio P550 Digi walker. How do you open the battery chamber in order to change the battery? Many thanks cacameron@btopenworld.com

I removed the rubber infill that covered a hidden screw. Released screw and then removed back plate. Removing the battery then required care as it is stuck with two sided tape to the Mio internals. Here I used a knive to prise/cut free.

My battery charge does not last more than a couple of days

Friend the battery is drain. You need to empty the batt then cover it with a paper put tape to avoid getting wet then put it in the freezer and after 12 hrs.remove it and let it dry totaly.then after drying charge the batt 4-6 hrs. and it will be back to normal.as new

I can't call or be called!

I had a similar situation happen, but it self fixed its self.

I could receive calls but not hear the person.
I knew it wouldn't dial out because if you watch the display as the call is being placed, you would notice no second touchpad "speaker phone" option would appear like normal. YMMV

I also have a key pad (certain letters only) button issue.

I did chuck the phone in the trash, but later retrieved it and it slowly had functions come back. (I suspect drying out from moisture, beer in the trash.........)

It has seemed to have a battery issue with the older battery (I bought a new one and cycle between them on occasion.
>>> I suspect this is your issue a battery going bad, showing decent battery life but quickly croaking.<<< try a new cell.

It does have some memory issues if the SD card is full and the internal memory is used by photos and videos. So I keep the internal phone memory clear or 1/2 full.

I use the base charger to condition the battery and charge slowly over night.

Try the battery in your case.

My phone got wet

I fixed a few "got wet" phones by doing the following:

> First, check phone's manual or search on internet to see if it has some type of fuse. If so, check this fuse for continuity. If fuse is OK, proceed to dry out phone using one of the methods below, or think of an arrangement that would be just as good.

> Take battery out, dry it with towel. Keep battery out of unit and away from heat.

> Using a gas oven that has a working pilot light (small single flame), you can dry out the rest of phone by placing a cookie sheet on oven's middle rack..place a small towel on cookie sheet...and put the phone (with the battery cover off) on towel.

> Making sure pilot light is on, leave phone in oven for at least 2 days (48 hours). This technique will dry out the phone without turning it into a lump of plastic.

> If need be, make sure no one turns the oven on during this time by taping the oven's temp knob so that it won't move easily. Also, having an explanation note taped to the main knob helps.

> What if I don't have a gas range? Use a food dehydrator with at least 6 trays, phone on top tray-well away from heating element. The dehydrator should be set at lowest temp. Still use 2 days as drying time.

> Do not use an electric oven unless it can be set for 120 degrees F and does not go much above that temp.

> Use of a thermometer with ANY drying method is recommended. Place thermometer right next to phone. If temp goes above 120 Deg F, adjust whatever you can to keep temp in check.

> If you have no other choice, an electric lamp with a 60 Watt light bulb will suffice.....just get a cardboard box to contain everything......and play with the arrangement for correct temp and most important, make sure light bulb is not near anything that might possibly catch fire.

> With any solution that uses heat to dry phone, make sure you check temperature several times during first day and a few times on the second day.

> If everything goes as it should, your phone will be dry...inside and out, ready to check!

> Replace battery and it's cover, hook up phone charger......and see what happens.

> If it still does not work, that would strongly indicate an internal short circuit....especially if phone was turned on when it got wet. Time either for a new phone, or have original phone fixed.

No, the backlight seems to be about the first thing to go when these screens fail. You can possibly get a replacement screen from pdaparts.com.

NEC MobilePro 770

These are older devices, and Lihium-Ion batteries degrade from the date of manufacture. You will most likely need to follow instructions (easy to find on the internet) to "fix" the battery. It needs two new cells.

External batteries

Sounds to me like you have a winning plan of attack. I did the same thing a couple years back, bought one of those 4XAA battery holders with a little slide switch and put a jack on the end of the wire...worked fine. Then I bought a 6V 1500 mAh rechargeable battery from Radio Shack that was made for r/c cars and such. It worked great too. Never had problem one with either setup.
