Deleting Images from the camera

I have a Canon A550. I can't delete single images from the camera. I have followed the directions on page 68 of the manual. However, the only option is to erase all images. How do you select and delete individual images?

Re: Deleting Images from the camera

You can do it in the computer is that is your route with a card reader. But deleting single images should be routine What does the manual say?- remember there is usually a more comprehensive manual on the software disk. Also 'Delete' may be referred to as something else 'Edit' for example

To delete individual images, press the trashcan button (below the cursor pad) while viewing the picture. To delete all images, follow the instructions in the "Erasing All images" section of the manual (page 153 in my copy). Better yet, format the memory card following the instructions in the "Formatting Memory Cards" section (page 59).

How do I delete pictures on my camera?

Use the camera's manual. An electronic version is here:
Page 74 tells you how to delete single images OR all of them at once and should be simple to follow. Delete images using this approach. In general, it is better to delete them on the camera and NOT on your PC. From time to time, 'Reformat' your media card - it helps keeps the system on the card 'clean' and in best condition for new images. Format/reformat your card as described in the manual

Dekete Images Via my PC

Hi I just phoned Panasonic because I am having the same problem. Unfortunately there is no way around this as it is a security 'feature' on the camera. Its to prevent you accidentally deleting all the images when using the camera wizard in windows. So you have to get a card reader or use the buttons on the camera to delete. You;d have thought there would be an option to disable this in the menu! Will

Idk how to delete!

You can download the manual for your camera here:

To delete photos:

  • Enter the playback mode.
  • Press the [Menu] button
  • Use the up/down buttons to select the trashcan (delete) icon.
  • You can use the left/right buttons to select single image, multiple images or All images.
  • Press the center (round) button.
  • Press the center button (repeatedly if doing multiple images) and then Press the [Menu] button again and choose OK.

That should do it.
Note that you can also delete photos quite easily by connecting the camera to your computer with the USB cable and deleting the images with Windows Explorer.

Deleting photos of my camera

Your camera creates folders on the SD card to hold the images. It puts about 100 images in each folder. (See page 111 in the User Guide.) When you erase images, it may only be erasing the images in one folder. But your computer still sees the images in the other folder(s). To completely erase all images, use the "Format" function (see pages 25 - 26 in the User Guide). To completely clear it, use the Low Level Format option. You can download the User Guide here.
