How do i use the cube root function? i can find the square root function, but at present it does not seem that the calculator has a cube root function.


There's a cube root function as the fourth item in the MATH menu. The fifth item is a general root function.

Two ways:

2ND [square-root] ( 8 7 . 3 4 / 5 ) ENTER

8 7 . 3 4 / 5 ENTER then 2ND [square-root] 2ND ANS ENTER

The first sequence takes the square root of 87.34/5, the second sequence calculates 87.34/5 then takes the square root of the result.

There is no cube root key on the fx-115ES. There is a general root function. It's the shifted function of the x^ key, just below and to the right of the big round key at the top of the keyboard, above the sin key. To find the cube root of 8:

In LineIO mode: press 3 SHIFT [root] 8 =

The TI-84 Plus Silver Edition - when dealing with roots and powers - how do you punch in the third root of or the fourth root of... also, how do you punch in ...the 3rd root of 8 cubed? or the 2nd root of...


Press the MATH key to bring up the Math menu. Option 3 gives you cubed, option 4 gives you cube root, option 5 gives you nth root.

For example, 3rd root of 8: MATH 4 8 ENTER gives 2.

4th root of 16: 4 MATH 5 16 ENTER gives 2.

Cube roots


You use the y^x (y to the x) key along with the 2nd function key. That does the opposite operation.

So, let's pick something we know the answer to as an example. How about the cube root of 8? We know 8 = 2 X 2 X 2, so the cube root of 8 will be 2.

Here's how:

8 2nd y^x 3 =

The display will show 2.

The three is the root you want. You can put in any number, with 2 being the square root, 3 the cube root, etc.
