Open "Computer" before plugging in the device. Plug it in. If you see two devices show up, one with a CD symbol and the other with a drive. Don't try opening the CD one, this is a read-only cd emulator on your flash drive. You cannot write to this nor make it writable. If this is not the case check the USB drive for a physical lock switch and unlock that.

Just format the drive. The hidden files are the trash folder.

What is the password for the new kingston USB DT109?

It is true that locking mobile storage devices, such as USB drives, with Imation Lock is an excellent way to protect your data.

However, using Imation Lock with a Kingston USB drive can create problems.

Learn how to unlock your Kingston USB drive so you can use it once again.

Ensure that your Kingston USB drive has been removed from your computer's USB port.

Start the Imation Lock software by double clicking the Imation Lock.

Plug in the Kingston USB into a USB port immediately after the "Please Insert the Device or Run This Utility as Privileged User" message appears.

Access your Kingston USB drive by clicking Start > Computer.

Double click on the device.

Start the Imation Lock software again by double clicking the Imation Lock.

Disable the password protection by clicking the open lock icon.

or

If you have password protected a USB drive or partition on your computer and have since forgotten the password, you will need to completely erase the drive.

Erasing and reformatting the drive will remove any password protection, software and data on the drive preventing you from accessing the drive.

The process is simple using Window's Disk Management utility.

Log into the computer as the administrator.

Open the Windows Start menu, select "Run," type "Compmgmt.msc" and click "OK." In Windows Vista and Windows 7, simply type the command into the "Search" field.

Select "Disk Management."

Locate the password-protected drive.

Right-click it and select "Delete." Confirm the action.

The drive will be erased and become unallocated free space.

Hope this helps.

Is there a hardware swich to give write protection? Any files or programs on your stick open? A restart can often solve most write protection bugs.

It always shows disk is write protected.

There is a switch on the back on the card. to disable write protection, simply move the switch in the opposite direction.

I have an imation 4GB nano usb, which just stopped working and i cannot format it because it's write protected.

If you plug it in and it shows up, right click on it from "my computer" (windows) go to properties and you should be able to uncheck the "read only" box. click apply and you should be able to format it... I think.

I am trying to format my imation m 4gb usb but the error comes as write protected.where in i am not able to even delete files from the drive

what you can do is, make your write protected drive "shared", that means go to my computer---> then rigtclick on flash drive---> click sharing & security---> check both "share this folder on network" & "allow users to change my files" ,apply setting then you'll be able to format your drive.
Note: In the future never unplug it before clicking on safely remove device.

Cancel ''write protect'' on USB memory stick

If no physical switch, then check the software that came with. Some sticks have a software component that recognizes when you plug the stick in and gives you options for viewing and launching applications from the stick. There may be controls you can use to change the write protect.
If not, or you can also try, opening a view to the stick from Windows Explorer and just delete files from there as you would from any drive. Windows will prompt you to confirm delete. I wouldn't delete any auto-load or setup apps that would be used to connect to another computer.
