Question about Bernina Sewing Machines

Open Question

I have an anniversary edition bernina...on the back it says 435, the dealer says I have a 450. Any way I was trying to clean out the bobbin case and pushed up on the lever that is just under the throat plate. Now the machine runs and stitches fine but it sounds different. Should I take it in to be looked at?

SOURCE: My Bernina 1530 stitches are faulty - with loops

This is almost always indicative of an upper tension problem.
First, make sure you're using a good quality thread. If you're using thread that's not of European manufacture, you're probably filling your tension assemblies with little fuzzies. Coats and Clark Dual Duty is the most notorious thread for causing tension issues. If you have a bunch of this thread: throw it away or use it for hand sewing.
Turn your machine off, and use some canned air to blow out your upper tension assembly. (It looks like a couple of little cymbals inside the thread path.) Set your tension dial to 4.5.
When threading, right before you actually thread the needle itself, and with the presser foot up, "floss" the thread back and forth by holding the thread at the top by the spool with your right hand, and down by the needle with your left hand. This will ensure that you force the thread into the tension assembly.
Also ensure that your bobbin is oriented the right direction, but this would be a less common cause for your symptom.
If none of these fixes work, you probably need to have your tensions professionally calibrated.

SOURCE: using a bernina gold latch bobbin case on the Bernina 435 machine

There isn't a Bernina 435. If you are referring to the 430 than the gold latch bobbin case will not work in that machine. If you are talking about the Bernina 450 the gold latch will work in that machine, with or without the embroidery module.

SOURCE: Jamming brand new machine

the tension on the bobbin case needs to be adjusted to needle size and type of fabric the medium fabrics usually use a size 11, light fabrics need a size 9 and heavy like ( corduroy denim or upholstery fabric needs a 14 or 16 Heavy fabrics need a little less tension on the top side so it will feed properly just play with it until it looks good on a scrap of the same fabric

How do I remove the back panel of my Bernina 1080 sewing machine?

The back panel on the BERNINA 1080 is not removable. These machines are cast metal, and the main body does not disassemble. The top of the machine will come off, but what it sounds like is that your bobbin winder is engaged, and the clutch in the machine is preventing the machine from turning. Try disengaging the bobbin winder and see if your machine will run. If not, I would reccomend taking your machine to a certified BERNINA technician for repair.

How do I thread the 960 Bernina Bobbin?

I'm assuming you have a front loading bobbin. Look at your bobbin. Hold it so the thread is falling down from the top to the right side. Slip it straight in to your bobbin case, and pull up through the slit, until it snaps in through the side clip.
Generally, if you are missing stitches, the hook isn't picking up the thread from the needle, and you will need to take it in for service at a Bernina dealer.

I have a faithful 730 Bernina and currently the bobbin thread keeps breaking. Please advise what may be causing this. Thanking you.

Bobbin thread breaks
1. There is a right way & wrong way to insert the bobbin in the case --when you insert the bobbin in if it doesn't stitch correctly turn the bobbin over see if that helps or bobbin case is not inserted correctly
2. Lint has collected in the bobbin holder
3. The bobbin is damaged & doesn't turn smoothly
4. Lower thread tension is two tight

BOBBIN THREADING ON BERNINA 1090S IS NOT WORKING

Make sure bobbin is pushed all the way to the right to lock in place for winding. You say thread cuts...Do you mean bobbin in bobbin case and you are trying to sew, but thread is breaking? If so, a whole different issue. That means there is jam and it can happen if thread not going into tension discs top of machine. Keep presser foot in up position when you thread your machine. Clean the bobbin case and feed dog area out with a brush. Always turn handwheel toasted you or you can cause imbalance of timing. Slow down. Start over after you check basics. Make sure presser foot up when you insert new needle and thread front to back--flat side needle back, more rounded side facing you, use emery cloth to carefully, gently smooth out any burrs or scratches on your bobbin case (that threaded bobbin fits into), and make sure bobbin you place into bobbin case has thread EVENLY distributed on it. Good luck! Jimmy

My bernina (home art edition 160) needle just hits the case where the bobbin goes in, didn't know if anyone knows how to fix this?

if you've changed the needle & it still hits the bobbin case then it's a good chance the machine is out of time & needs to be repaired

My mother has a bernina 1008 and now that we have taken the bobbin casing out to clean it won't catch when threaded. Any ideas?

Are you threading the bobbin case correctly - the bobbin should rotate clockwise when pulling the thread out under the tension spring. Are you ensuring that the bobbin case is firmly clicked back into position when replacing it. Check your needle is OK. Did you remove the hook from the hook race when cleaning out - have you oiled the hook race ?

The stitch quality is lousy. The bobbin thread is loose and the seam can be pulled apart. I have had it cleaned, adjusted and checked out numerous times by two Bernina authorized dealers ever since I...

check the tension spring in teh bobbin case
replace teh bobbin case
check for fluff or dirt between teh tension plates of teh tension unit - a piece of paper rubbed between them will help
take it to another dealer!
