Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

yes, you must use the setup menu and assign the optical input to the input you are using. Some receivers have a "input mode" switch. If this one does, you only ned to press it until it says "optical". If you have a owners manual, it will decribe all the settings that need to be made to accomplish what you need.

If you do not have one, I have uploaded one to my website for you do have. It will only be there for a limited time before I remove it, so get it quickly. You need Adobe Reader to read this, so if you don't already have iton your computer you can download it free here:

http://www.adobe.com

Here is the link to the owners manual:

I would appreciate a "FixYa!" rating for this free information and manual. Let me know if I can be of any further help.

SOURCE: I am using a JVC

hi,
check the digital output setting of ur media player. it should be in the format raw not pcm. also check the audio format of ur movies in the media player. is it dolby digital ,dts or mp3. if u have down loded the videos it will be in mp3 format unless u have selected the dts downloads. if it is in mp3 or any other formate ur receiver will not support. if u press the surround button on ur remote u can select artificial surround effect for the mp3 audio.
ok

>>>> * A word on coaxial vs spdif (optical) audio cabling - I always use coaxial if I have the choice because it is A) cheap RCA cable available anywhere in any reasonable length you want to run; B) can be extended and SHARED with other components if you have limited jacks available. You just have to be careful to make sure only one digital source at a time is turned on while using the other; C) RCA cable is impervious to problems arising from tight bends; optical physically delicate and won

make sure you're using the corresponding speaker inputs for speaker 1 (only) and turn off Speaker 2 on the bottom left corner near the headphone jack (it should be sticking out further then the speaker 1 button). hope this helps.

You have to configure your DTV input to use optical audio instead of analog dtv audio (red/white plugs). Input assignment should be described in the manual. Come back to me if you have still problems with it.
