SOURCE: Upgraded Dell Dimension 3100 memory to 2 Gigs - Windows XP fails

Did you add the two sticks with the 512 or remove the 512 and add the two 1gb sticks? Try booting the machine with ONLY the 1gb sticks in.

Your machine supports 1gb modules but they can't be higher than 533MHz. Check that the memory you purchased was either PC3200 (400MHz) or PC4200 (533MHz) and is 1.8v. If you post the part number off of one of the modules I can look it up for you.

SOURCE: Beep problem Dell Dimension 4700

Beep problem update - Dell 4700. Last night started computer - cold boot. The screen had just started to light up and then went black and computer started beeping in an interrupted sequence. Fan speed increased considerably (suggesting overheat?) Shut it down and attempted two restarts with no success. This morning I unplugged all cords, opened case, pulled and reset memory cards and vacuumed inside. The computer was very clean so really don't suspect that dust was an issue. Buttoned it back up plugged in plugs and restart successfully accomplished. Have no clue why. Some square electrons, I guess.

SOURCE: "my computer will only beep no screen,it beeps

Hi

You likely have a bad memory module. First, try removing all the memory and putting it back in again. This is called reseating. If you still get the errors, then try removing one stick at a time and testing it with each stick (provided, of course, you have more than one stick installed). If you only have one stick installed, remove it and turn on the computer and it should beep at you as well. That memory stick will need to be replaced.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate this solution as fixya. Thank you.

Hello, I have a problem with my Dell Dimension C521. When I try to boot it up it gives 1 long and 2 short beeps! How can I fix this problem? Thank you!

Hi,

1 long and 2 short beep code means your Memory (RAM) has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Your system made a Memory test and the test is a failure (bad memory during memory sizing).

Here's a guide for Beep Codes on your Dimension model: Click Here

Hope that helps you.

Has anything changed since it was working last? check that first
Next -- the Beep codes indicate a hardware problem --the PC was unable to POST(Power On Self Test-)-but DELL's beep codes closest to what you described is either 1-2-video card not detected or 1-3-1-1 which is Memory (RAM) error adn the PHEONIX beep code of 1-3-2 is Memory error also-- so be sure all cards and chips are seated properly--I dont think its the hardrive --a PC can still boot and POST without a hardrive.

I have a dell dim 2400 that will not boot. When attempting I get a beep code 1-1-2. Is it fried??

Go to the Dell website. Under Support, at the upper right corner, type in 'Dim 2400 1-1-2 beep codes. The first thing that comes up is 'Advanced Troubleshooting Dell Dimension 2400 Series". Half way down the next page under 'Beep Codes' you'll find Code 1-1-2, the cause of which is 'Microprocessor register failure.' This probably means you'll have to take your 'puter into the shop to get it repaired.

If your computer is beeping at you, 9 times out of 10 its going to be an issue with the memory or video. (more often the memory) Try re-seating both. If your still hearing the beep fest, below is a list of the most common beeps and what they refer to. This will help you to find out what needs replacing.

Long beep followed by 3 sequential short beeps. This issue is linked to your Graphic card configurations
