My SH988 massage chair stopped working during a power surge to the house. Can the motor be rebuilt at a reasonable cost?

We had a power surge to the main power line to our house during a storm. The chair had been left plugged in, so it started moving on its own, at 110 volts and 220 volts. The chair no longer turns on.

SOURCE: I Accisentally plugged My 110 Volt xbox 360 into a 220 volt outle

The reason for this is the power overwhelmed the circuit boards and burnt them out you may need to talk to someone up the Game shops or go to support.microsoft.com and see what other people think. even if microsoft tell you to DONT send it in for repair as it gets rattled in the post and rattling the console causes the Open Tray Error an extremley annoying error. hope this helps

SOURCE: my drier 110 volts was accidentally plugged to 220

The least of your problems would be a burnt out relay or internal switch which can be replaced at reasonable expense. In a worst case the motor or heating element "fried" and it'll be cheaper to buy a new dryer.
BTW 110 and 220 plugs are entirely different and a 110 plug cannot be plugged into a 220 outlet.

SOURCE: My daughter plugged my 110

After checking with Dyson, it appears it can be fixed but depending on the age, it might be more cost effective to just buy a new one. There are not a lot to the dyson vaccums to repair. Plugging the vac into double the voltage would have fried the motor and that will need to be replaced. There is not reset or surge protector. With shipping and replacement of the motor, we would recommend a new vac. Good luck and sorry!

check out this web site for some possible other fixes before buying a new one:

SOURCE: My EMS 9 massage chair

The massaging is done by small motors with eccentric weights attached to the shafts. Those motors are controlled thru a very simple control board that in your case appears to have failed.
To fix the chair you will have to access the board and find out why it has failed - at least a basic experience in electronics is required, to perform the tests on the relays and triacs used to control the motors. If you don't posses this experience then all you can do is to check that the power cable, the remote cable and the motors cables that plug in the board are firmly inserted - for everything else you will have to call a pro.

Massage chair will not power up after electrical surge. what could be wrong?

Depending on how much current came down the line will determine how much damage has been done, it could have blown any circuit boards or even the motor, contact your electricity provider, they are liable for any damage.

How much does an electric massage chair cost?

There are several different brands and styles of electric massage chairs. You can get an electric massage cushion, which is basically just a vibrating pad that you put on top of a chair, for about $50 or even less. On the other side, if you want a deluxe, reclining electric massage chair with various different massage techniques, heating options, and an overall much more therapeutic experience, an electric massage chair can cost up to $8000. It really all depends on your budget and how nice of a chair you want.

Is it worth buying a massage chair in replacement of going to my weekly massage appointments at the spa?

I think so. Let's face it; although massage chairs can be expensive, they are a one-time fee that will pay off in the long run; whereas seeing a masseuse every week is an ongoing cost. Even putting price aside, buying a massage chair adds a level of convenience to your life. Having a massage chair in your home is like having a therapist on call 24/7.
