Hi 2 scoops of coffee to 3 cups. Then work it from there, to get it to your taste. It is done when it stops perking. When that happens the keepwarm element takes over until you unplug it. Good luck. Ron

SOURCE: Farberware 12 cup electric percolator leaks

Hi, if you have a China pot toss it. If you have a USA pot, Get ahold of a 1 3/8" socket. Take the base off and you will see a square nut on the bottom of the main heating element, put that in a bench vice and thighen the nut up inside the pot. You will only have to turn it a tiny bit. While you have it apart check if it still leaks, if so thghten a bit more. You will get nowhere without the vice and the socket. .Try to stay away from the keepwarm element ( little white rope looking thing ) Good luck. Ron

SOURCE: My coffee pot is not heating or perking the coffee

It sounds like the problem I've been having with all Farberware percolators lately. It sounds like the thermostat is bad, I called customer service and they are no help I was told that Farberware doesn't sell repair parts.I found a place in Miami Fl that can help. Goodman's at Goodmans.net their part number is 4FA-FTC and lists for $4.99 plus sh it's not an exact match it's slightly thinner then the original but with a little creativity it will work just fine I've fixed 3 percolators already

Why doesn't percolator run long enough

The thermostat in the base of the pot needs replaced...it is the little round thing pressed against the base of the pot. (You can see it after removing the base of the pot.) Pull off the leads and remove the screw holding it in and get a new one at goodmans.net ($10 including shipping...I just got one from them.)

You should take a picture before removing anything to make sure that you get the leads connected up correctly.

You have a main perk element and a keep warm element in the base of the pot. Plus a thermostat pressed against the bottom to sense temperature. Upon plugging in a cold pot, the thermostat reads zero ohms and applies 120 volts all to the perk element. Then when the thermostat senses a high enough temp, it opens and 120 volts is still applied to the perk heating element, but this time through the keep warm element (about 200 ohms or so). So now the perk element although hot is not hot enough to continue perking, just keeps your already perked coffee warm.

On a cold pot, you should read about 17 ohms looking into the pot...on a warm pot (with the thermostat opened up) you will read in the hundreds of ohms.

Why won't our poly perk percolator shut off?

I just bought a Poly Perk percolator from a thrift store. If yours is the same, it's a vintage plastic, electric percolator. I found your question while searching for directions for mine. My percolator does'nt shut off either. It just continues running. I don't know if it has a shut off, but I figure I'll just unplug mine for now since it made really good coffee. If it's supposed to shut off, I suspect we're both stuck with few options. I hope you find your solution though.

Only a few months old and when we plug it in it starting making a squealing noise and only got hot water when it finished . Faberware Percolator.

Hi Sharon. ALL Farberware coffee pots make racket. You have a pot that is made in China. When the water is hot the noise stops and it goes into keepwarm mode. As long as your water is hot 175 to 185 it is good. If you were trying to make coffee and you are not perking through the basket is another case. When you want to make coffee you MUST use the cone spring in the pump. That keeps the pump tight so the hot water goes up the pump. With out it the water just boils and does not go through the pump. Good luck. and if you want more info use callahanronald@att.net Ron

Farberware 4 and 12 cup percolators stopped making good coffee

I thoroughly cleaned my 4-cup percolator by brewing a couple of pots of plain white vinegar and scrubbing the build-up from the bottom of the pot (and running a couple of plain water brews through the pot after all the cleaning). The percolator now brews hot, strong coffee again!

8-cup Farberware electric coffee maker

Hi, I just posted this for the FCP412 model: here it goes again.
I've had the same problem, I went with a percolator since our water is hard and we calcify the heating element within about a year. Having the FCP-412 stop working has made me angry as well.
1st, I placed an order for a P04-303 thermostat. It seems to be the correct replacement but we'll see. You can find it here: http://www.goodmans.net/get_item_fa-p04-303_farberware-p04-303-thermostat-for-coffemaker-urn.htm

2nd, here is my 1 cent fix. Really, insert a penny under the thermostat. The delay that it takes to additionally heat the penny will increase the duration that the 1000 Watt element is on. You can experiment with other materials just make sure it isn't flammable (it's next to the element) and it is not too insulate (you want the thermostat to open the circuit some time after the start of the heating cycle (3-3:30 minutes).
Good luck. -david
