SOURCE: iPod Nano screen on and blank
Try these steps:
Reset, retry, restart, reinstall, then restore. In that order. If one doesn't work, go on to the next.
If you call apple support these are the things they'll tell you to do.

First make sure your hold switch isn't on. It's on the top or bottom and slides
back and forth. It needs to be switched to the left. Once it is to the
left, here's how you reset:
You can reset your ipod by holding down the menu and select (round button in the center) buttons down for at least 10 seconds. You'll see an apple logo flash, that's when you stop pressing the buttons. It will shut off, then back on.

no there is nothing wrong. This is normal, after you turn it off by pressing the hold/pause button switch it into the locked position. When you take the lock off and press anything it will come back on exactly where you left it. Don't worry it is not faulty. it is supposed to do this.
I hope this helps
