I'm having the same problem with the remote to the ceiling fan. You might want to go to Home Depot or lowes and get a new remote

Remote is not the problem. Obviously that was our first thought.

SOURCE: Ceiling fan does not reverse with remote

Just reporting that I called Hampton Bay about the remote not working to reverse the fan. I was told that I needed to have the fan running on low and then press reverse on the remote control. If that doesn't work, customer service told me to press reverse while running the fan on medium. (Some fans are set to reverse on low and others on medium.) Nowhere in the manual is this addressed. I had been pressing reverse with the fan turned off, which seemed to me a logical thing to do. Live and learn.

SOURCE: The Hampton Bay Altura Ceiling fan functions only with remote.

I contacted the manufacturer (kingofffans.com) after my Altura fan would run on high speed only and the remote would not control any thing. They said their was a manufacturing defect with a capacitor that affected many of the Altura fans. We are now on a waiting list for a new capacitor and housing, because they did not have enough replacement parts.

SOURCE: Light remote control stopped working

most of my fan controls have done this to me. you know the reciever is working cuz the fan works fine. you need to dis assemble the remote completely and clean the contacts for the light button. mine are two small black dots that seem to keep getting slimey and wont work till i clean them, then all works like brand new again.

good luck.

We just bought a house with a beautifiul Hampton Bay ceiling fan, however the remote is missing. Consequently, we are unable to use the fan. Is there any way to determine if the fan is operational?

Try Home Depot. They sell Hampton Bay fans. They should have replacement remotes.
Here is one that Amazon sells. If you order oline, check to see if your model number is
what the remote will control. Also return policy of the seller if it doesnt work. May be easier
to go to Home Depot with a picture of the fan, or model number if you can locate it. Remember
that you will still have to figure out what settings to set the switches to that control the channel
the remote works on. It's do-able.

mcdevito75 here, Double check your barrey install in the remote, evn new batteries could be weak, also, you may have to get to the shroud just at the ceiling, that"s the cover for the fans wireing, and see if the reciever eye for the remote is clean. Also does the remote have to be programed to operate the fan.

Hello, W/D here. It sounds like you have bypassed your on/off switch.
The white wire is the common wire, which returns the power to ground, and completing the circuit. By connecting this wire, you have completed a circuit, indicating that power was constantly on to the fan.
Gain access to your wiring in the ceiling (trip the breaker first, please).
If you have tied your hot wires to a twisted bundle of black wires, you have tied to the hot thru line. Look for a single black wire. What normally happens with the ceiling wiring is that the circuit hot wire goes to your ceiling box. Another wire connects to this one. It passes on to the next device on the circuit. Yet another wire ties to the bundle. It is your switch hot wire. It goes to the switch, and returns to the ceiling box. The return wire from the switch is the one you're looking for.
Regards, --W/D--

No connection between the fan remote and Ceiling fan

The remote-controlled fans that I've seen all have DIP switches in the transmitter (the "remote") and receiver (up by the fan). For the remote to operate the fan, both sets of switches have to be set to the same code. If you happened to bump the DIP switches (and change the code) while replacing the battery, the fan would no longer respond to the remote.

It's been four months since you posted this problem, so you've probably figured that out by now. Still, other users may run into the same problem occasionally.
