Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

No Video eMachine T5254 desktop with a MCP61SM-GM mobo. What happens is that whenever you plug the power cord into the tower, the CPU fan spins, you can hear the SATA HD spinning, but that's it. No video, and you cannot shut it off by holding down the power button. They will both just spin, and you get no reaction from any input. As far as I know there is no built-in speaker, so if there were any type of "beep beep" error messages, I cannot hear.

If its a flat screen monitor ?

eMachines flat-screen monitors offer high quality at low cost. eMachines flat-screen monitors are compatible with most brands of PCs. Issues with eMachines flat-screen monitors can arise from faulty power sources, cable problems and incompatible settings. These issues can be resolved by testing step-by-step each possible cause.

Plug the computer's power cable firmly into a working AC outlet. Press the computer's power button.

Check the LEDs on the front of the computer case to confirm that the computer receives power. Plug the eMachines monitor's power cable into a working AC outlet. Press the monitor's power button. Check the LEDs on the front bezel or power button of the eMachines monitor to confirm that the monitor receives power. Orange or blinking LEDs indicate low power or no signal. Green LEDs denote a working connection.. Perform a monitor self-test. Switch off the monitor. Unplug the video cable from the monitor. Press the eMachines monitor's power button. An eMachines logo, Windows logo or "no signal" message indicates that the monitor is working properly. Plug the eMachines monitor's video cable into the video port on the computer. Attach the monitor's included DVI-to-VGA adapter to the monitor's VGA cable if your computer has a DVI port (15 or 25 pin-slots with 1 side slot) in place of a VGA port (15 pin-slots, no side slot). Press the eMachines monitor's input button to change the monitor's setting to match the computer port used. Set your monitor to DVI if connected to your computer's DVI port. Set your monitor to VGA if connected to your computer's VGA port. Connect the eMachines monitor to a known working computer with a known working video cable if the problem persists. Contact Gateway, eMachines manufacturer, if the monitor issue is not resolved. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: No display and wont boot

A Blinking Amber or Yellow power button means that the power supply is receiving power from the source but is unable to properly distribute it to the components. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Power supply is easier and cheaper to replace.

Most computer repair shops have a tester that they can hook up to your power supply. You can also purchase one for yourself, they usually run $25-50, it may be viable to purchase one if the shop will charge that much to test.

SOURCE: IBM ThinkCentre A51 PC Desktop won't boot

This could still possibly be a bad power supply, even if the fans and drives spin up. If you have a spare try hooking it up.

the list of things that can cause this are:

bad power supply
bad ram
IDE error (optical or hard drive problem)
bad card (modem, video card etc.)
bad processor
bad board

The first thing i would look for in this case is blown capacitors. Those are the little things on the board that look like little soup cans, usually with silver tops. If the tops of any of them are bulging or have junk leaking out of them, you have a bad board. If you are handy with a soldering iron you can try to replace them. Not sure if radio shack still sells caps, but they are easy to find on line. I have about an %80 success rate fixing boards in this way.

If the PS change doesn't work, then try it with different sticks of RAM, if you have more than one, pulling one at a time until it starts or you've tried it with all the ram. If not ram, disconnect the ide cables from the board, these are the wide ones usually connected to the HD's and optical drives. If it still doesnt start then pull all the cards. If it doesnt start then, try swapping processor and if still no joy a new board.

If the fan is not spinning this can be the issue ...but it can also be the motherboard itself ..if you have the possibility try to change the fan ..cause if it fails to start the computer will also fail cause the cpu it will shut down the system instantly if it has no cooler working ..(gets to the shut down temperature in one sec or so ) If it seams that it is trying to start ..but , like I said , it shuts down ..just try to change the fan ...but it may be a issue with the power supply or the motherboard as well...

Dell gx280 no post cpu fan spins on max

What have you tried so far? Whenever I deal with a no post issue.

1. Disconnect all the connection at the back of the computer tower and power cycle it by pressing the power button of the tower for 15 seconds and plug the power cord back in and the monitor only.
2. If no post didn't occur, plug the devices one-by-one until you see the faulty device
3. if none of the external device causes the problem
4. We'll have to open the computer tower and reseat the video card, hard drive, memory, cpu power supply.

doing things one-at-a-time is the best thing to isolate the issue and point the root cause of the problem. Let's hope that it's not a problem with the power supply or motherboard.

My emachine T1742 desktop will not turn on. When plugged in the power supply's fan turns on, cpu fan doesnt start, both hdd/power led's flicker and pressing power button doesnt power on/off system.

Disconnect all the devices from the computer(tower) including keyboard, mouse, monitor(everything)..even the power cable

Now keep on holding down the power button on the computer tower for 15-30 seconds..

Now release the power button, plug in the power cable, monitor, keyboard, mouse and turn on the computer...

If it works, great!!!

Otherwise, take it for repair..

PC is not turning on

is your powersupply overloaded by extras (e.g a new graphics card/processor) ? or has it simply given up the ghost?
the pc could also be drawing alot of powewr form you electrics and could've blown a fuse in your power socket/too much demand.
you could also try and update your bios chip. you need to be a bit more specific aswell ;)

My emachine desktop is not not coming on

I've owned nothing but e-machines towers for probably 9yrs. I've had this exact problem with two of them already. E-machines are notoriously known for power supply problems (which is usually about a $50 fix), but oddly enough the two problems I've ever had with the tower not powering up, resulted in being a problem with the motherboard. You can order another one, but it's VERY costly. Odds are that your info is still perfectly intact on your harddrive. When I experienced this problem, I removed the harddrive and installed it as a backup drive within a new tower. (I know you probably ask 'why keep buying them', but in my opinion, Gateway does a REALLY good job of keeping their "e-machines line" with up-to-date features and it's definitely hard to beat the low price!)

If you still have a perfectly functioning monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, etc, you may want to consider buying just a new tower (approx $250-$400 depending on brands)
