Scotsman CU50PA-1A very noisy on start up

We installed a Scotsman CU50PA-1A a couple of months ago. It is making plenty of ice. Our problem is that after the unit has been siiting idle for a period of time and then restarts to replenish the bin it makes a loud and annoying buzzing or vibrating sound. This sound eventually (After several minutes) goes away and then the unit runs quietly. I have checked and the unit is level. I have also found that I can adjust one of the legs on the unit up or down and the sound will stop. however the next time the the unit starts the noise comes right back. I have also noted that I can sometimes push either up or down on the bottom of the unit ( area where compressor etc is mounted) and the noise will stop. But comes back the next time the unit starts after sitting for a while. It was suggested that the water pressure might be to high after sitting a while. However I have decreased the water pressure to that line without any change. I have also installed felt pads on the feet of the unit with no change. Again, once the unit has been operating for several minutes it is running quietly. But after it sets for a few hours and then restarts the vibrating / buzzing noise returns and last for several minutes before stopping, Then the unit runs quietly. Any ideas what could be causing this problem?

Just to clarify the scenario. Ice maker has made enough ice to fill the bin and shut off. Then a few hours later enough ice has been used to trigger the unit to restart. Upon restarting the unit makes a loud noise the sounds like something inside the cabinet is vibrating. This sound will last on average 3-5 minutes. It will then get quieter and quiter until it goes away and then the unit runs quietly. The first time this happened was shortly after it was installed. I assumed maybe one of the adjustable feet was in need of adjustment. I began turning one of the adjustable legs to raise that side and after a couple of turns the sound went away. I assumed I had fixed it. However the next time the unit started after sitiing a few hours the sound was back. I removed the kick plate and tried to find the source of the sound. While doing so I pushed down on the bottom of the unit and it stopped. I can also sometimes simply open the door and then close it firmly and the sound will stop momentarily but then come right back. It is very frustrating. Keep feeling like there is something I am missing. LOve this ice maker bit sure would like to tame this vibration issue since it is sitting just a few feet from where we sit while watching tv etc.. in our home bar area.

SOURCE: Ice maker stopped making ice

hi there,

sounds like the i/m is making ice. if you have ice in the bucket, it means that the only problem is the dispensor. if you have frost anywhere, the problem is with the actuator, which is the ice pladdle. you may have a broken spring or just the ice paddle need to be replaced.

SOURCE: My new Kenmore window unit 76081 makes loud rattle

If it does not make the noise when the fan is ruunin you may ahve abroken sping in the compressor. Make sure you Window unit is level. If not the compressor will knock on the inside. Rusty

SOURCE: loud noise coming from icemaker...noise decreases

The icemaker is pretty simple, there is a motor, a solenoid, and a couple of switches.

It sounds like the whole icemaker mechanism is jammed or has a broken gear, and the motor is trying it's darndest to turn the stuck mechanism (grinding it's gears in the process), or the gear has already gone, and what's left of the gear is dancing around in there.

My guess is either the $7 icemaker drive gear or the $94 icemaker assembly.

Scotsman ice machine slow water fill

Check to see if there is a water filter inline if so then change it. If not then check where the supply water line is hooked up to the machine pull line off and turn water on to make sure you have good water pressure. if you have good pressure then pull the water inlet valve and take it apart to make sure it is not stopped up with trash and that is it.

does it look like "6" or "b" , the "b" just indicates the ice bin is full. If the unit is not making ice, check the curtain on the outlet of the ice making coil to see that it is not stuck open. There is no listed "6" error code in the service manual.

Is there anything hanging down in the beam of the sensors? check sensor connections at the controller make sure there is no moister in it and are making good connections. is your water real hard a lot of minerals dirtying up the eyes. if all of this is clear and sensors are good then nothing else but the control board.

Pull and clean water level switch. Check to see if water solenoid is getting power to it if so check to make sure you are getting water through it. FIRST check water filter make sure its not stopped up. if that is clear check make sure water line is not kinked. If your unit is not getting water then the unit will run high pressure and lock out on refrigeration.
