Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Slim Black Console

1 Answer

My Xbox360 has started to get very hot, plugged in, but not even on??!! I recently had to use the TV it is hooked up to very shortly as a monitor for my computer. While I was using the computer, I noticed the Xbox was very hot to the touch, but it wasn't even running? What gives? If I turn it on, everything works, but it heats up very quickly, am afraid to use it, any ideas? Now I am only using the TV for the Xbox again, but this is still happening, I have to unplug the xbox, or it just heats up sitting there!! NOT ON!

OK you gotta clean the vents. The xbox needs airflow and lots of it. :)

SOURCE: My Xbox won't turn on

Do you have the replacement power cord (from the power cord recall)? If so, this has a built-in circuit breaker, and a button to reset it.

SOURCE: 2 ring of death

MS is one of the worst companies I have ever seen in reliability. If something of theres doesn't work they say woops! Buy a new one.. and they move on to steal more ideas.

I got the 2 ring of death and tried the xclamp fix- worked for 30 min. Doesn't run more than 5 mins now. There is no dust in it and the fans are working fine.

I've read that my xbox my have gotten so hot with the default config that it melted the sodder off itself. WTF

If someone finds a GOOD solution (versus the typical MS resonse given by localwonder)

Also I have run my xbox with a fan blasting air into it and this doesn't affect the 5 min uptime.

I can't connect my xbox360 to my sony pfm-42b2 tv

Keep in mind that your Sony IS NOT A TV, but a monitor instead. There is an actual XBOX360 VGA adapter that's available at most gaming retailers. It was initially designed for those who wanted to use their PC monitors for there console gaming. HDMI is NOT compatible with a VGA input as HDMI is a digital signal type and VGA is an analog type connection. You must also remember to have the XBOX set to a NON-progressive resolution (480i) if trying to hook it up using the standard XBOX video cables.

I just hooked up my Xbox with and HDMI cable, however my samsung tv does not read it, and I cannot select the HDMI function in source

Ok, I don't have an XBox360 so I can't get specific but if you can't select hdmi input on the TV then you are probably not getting a HDMI signal. I would check your XBox360 set up to be sure that it is set to output video on HDMI not composit, s-video, or component. You might have to return to the last working setup and monitor so that you can see the menu to make the change.

Hope that helps,

You need to recheck your wires that you hooked up when you replaced the starter. You possibly have some that could be touching each other. If the the positive cable touches the purple wire on the solenoid the engine will turn over when you hook up the battery.Check your wiring very carefully.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Try these :

1.) reinstall your operating sys .

2.) sounds like there is a short somwhere. is it under warranty?

3.) Check the plug-in for the external power pack. Mine did the same thing and it turned out to be an old and week connection at the plug... the contacts were not fully making.

Let me know if teh above are OK .. !

Sony str-dg820. having a problem getting video on tv

Hook up Composite / Component Monitor Out wire from receiver to TV video input because receiver will not change analog input into HDMI
You need to connect receiver and TV through analog video terminals as above.
Actually you are expecting that receiver will convert DVD player and Xbox analog video input into digital HDMI signal for TV and This is incorrect.
