My Ipod was working just fine a month ago, but then it started collapsing. First when I tried to sync my music it came up with a message saying it couldn't sync because it was missing a disk file. I tried the five Rs, reinstalled itunes and reset my Ipod. Then I tried to put music on again and got the same problem. So now I had no music on my Ipod. Now, when I plug my Ipod into one of the computer's USB ports, I get a message along the lines of "dectected an unknown device in the USB hub" or "power surge from unknow device in USB port." It won't even see my Ipod now. My Ipod is a year and a half old now short of buying a new Ipod what can I do?

★★★★★ 1. Try another USB cord or USB cable. 2. Restrart your computer for a try. 3. Reset or restore your iPod for a try, this way can fix many general iPod problems. 4. Download and install the latest version fo iTunes for a try. 5. You may try this iPod transfer, it's a nice iTunes alternative that can help you upload music and video to iPod, I always use it to sync my iPod when my iTunes can't recognize my iPod, it's easy to use and works pretty well. http://www.daniusoft.com/ipod-music-transfer.html
Have you tried restoring the iPod yet?
Use the Five Rs to restore the iPod. You will lose the data that is currently on it if you restore but you can always re-sync the data to the iPod.

Try it on another computer and if it happens its the ipod.
Or try restalling itunes with the lates version (7.7.1)
If that doesnt work try using a different program for your ipod eg Jriver media center
this happens sometimes on the initial use after the upgrade, what may be happening to make the application hang is that itunes is trying to access the internet for the music store causing the hang, especially if youre not on line when syncing.
I think there is an option in the menu to turn off the store.
If you still get problems, uninstall itunes, download and reinstall again.
