When ever I open my Itunes I get this message. "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall itunes."I've tried reinstalling itunes and I get the same message. itunes does open and I can get to my library but I can't use my burner. Can anyone help me please?
I have the same problem. One day, my Windows drivers stopped working, so I ran through the options on the Microsoft help site to fix the problem. My problem was solved, but it caused this same problem with iTunes, as the Microsoft support site said.
I suspect you did not complete all the steps in the document. In the document you need to delete the upper and lower filters in the registry and DELETE the burning software you added, shut down and then reinstall the software. This is often difficult for users since they have no idea what app is causing the problem.
With iTunes, make sure you are using the latest version. Older versions caused this upper and lower filter issue among other burning apps.
In some extreme cases you must uninstall and reinstall ALL burning software on your PC. This is easy on an HP. Delete the SW from Programs and then use Recovery Manager C:\PC Help and Tools\ etc..,. to run Application Recovery. You can only install one app at a time. Shut down between each install and check if your drives show up in Device Manager and burn.
Following the process above (installing one app at a time) will allow you to find out which app you added is causing the problem.
All the HP apps on the PC work fine as the PC is tested for issues like this. Something was added that over-wrote the Upper and Lower filters, essentially corrupting them so your ODDs don't work or don't even show up in Device Manager.

I would suggest you try safe mode.
Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. The words "Safe Mode" appear in the corners of the display to identify which Windows mode you are using. If an existing problem does not reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes.
If you don't know the cause of the problem, you can use the process of elimination to help you find the problem. Try starting all of the programs you commonly use, including the programs in your Startup folder, one by one, to see if a program might be the cause of the problem.
Follow the steps to boot the computer in safe mode with networking:
1. Restart your computer if it is powered on.
2. Tap the F8 key after your computer initially powers on.
3. Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu you can stop tapping.
4. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
5. Select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter.
6. You should see drivers loading, and then please wait.
7. You should then be at the Welcome Screen.
8. Logon to your computer using an account with Administrator privileges.
If you have a Windows OS, press and hold the ALT and CTRL (control) keys and then press the Up arrow. (If that doesn't work, try holding the Alt and CTRL keys and pressing the left (or right) arrow key twice.) If that fails, right click on the desktop (Windows+D will minimize all programs), anywhere with no running programs or icons. Then select the Screen Resolution option. Burning dvd\'s is always a crapshoot when you have multiple machines. Computer drives are more tolerant on playback - the problem lies with your other, independent playback units. That is why in your main viewing area it is important that you have a few units so that if disk does not play in one machine, it will play on another. Has to do with the individual differences and calibrations of the machines involved. Store bought dvd\'s have less problems because their laser reflectivity is always higher than disks you burn, and therefore, easier to read properly. Price of the unit has no reflection on ability to properly read the disk. Sometimes and often, a cheaper machine will work better with copies - you never know.
try checking windows control panal too see if you have drivers installed. if o.k. try sound icon to see if you have ticked mute box. here's the one that got me,the dvd playing program had the mute box ticked. re-launch dvd played/media played and un-tick. good luck
Open the cpu cabinet cover.Then reconnect the RAM memory into motherboard.
Make sure motherboard is not ground with cabinet cover.
Clean dust from motherboard .If there is any pci or vga card reconnect it.
Also pull cmos cell from motherboard for 10 minutes then all settings defaults then check.

Please download the ERD Winternal Image from http://www.mininova.org/tor/857048 and burn it in a CD. Thenboot your PC from the CD. Select your Windows Media Edition for whichyou have forgot password. Without asking for any password you will getinto Windows. Then goto control panel->User Accounts->Select theUsername[for which u want to change password]. Then use change passwordoption to change password. Then Reboot the PC and remove the CD. Nowyour windows password will be reset. Thanks.
