someone gave me my xbox 360 because the power brick was bad. it would freeze up and show some kind of checkboard thing on the screen. i told the guy at gamestop about it and he told me to make sure its not on the carpet, same for the power brick. it hasnt froze up since so it saved me 100 dollars.
Your xbox had gotten the red ring of death. If you send it to microsoft
and its in warrenty they will fix it or send you a brand new one. You
have to go to there website, and they will ask you for a bunch of info,
it will say if its in warrenty or not and if it is they will send you a
box to mail it to them in.
it is definately a possibility that where you keep your Xbox is the problem. ive actually gone through 3 so far (thank god for the xbox return service) on the latest one i moved it to on top of a speaker away from anything that gives off heat when in use (like your dvd player) and its outlived the other 2. good luck!
