Is it leaking oil?

I recommend not even trying to start it until you at least find out if it has enough oil in it...it may be too late already.

SOURCE: number one injector came loose

REPLACE THE FUEL INJECTOR CANT REBUILT IT.IF YOU REMOVE FUEL INJECTORS FUEL RAIL YOU HAVE TO REPLACE GROMMETS AND O RINGS ON ALL THE FUEL INJECTORS IF NOT YOU WILL HAVE A INTAKE LEAK AT THE OLD FUEL INJECTORS SEALS.REPLACE THE FUEL INJECTOR YOU REBUILT THEY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.

Dont think you will . as most are hydraulic now .Lift the rocker box cover and look for adjuster nuts on the top of the pushrod arms .Best to get a valve cover gasket or seal before you remove the rocker box..

Does is smell like oil burning ? Make sure it is full of oil and that it is not overdue for an oil change

sure sell it, (1/2 joking ) old post.
easy has only one path, that.
or learn how to find noise, with a stethoscope.
there are great books on finding noise, even toyota books.
here is one example'
no machine runs for ever, then fail and make noises.
Abnormal.
some are a danger to you car or engine.
so smart folks never ignore (1000x that on aircraft)

some noises are so hard to find the dealer has the car crushed
and gives you a new one. (loose metal chucks in frame? or spoon from union hack.)

It could be one of the rockers are loose or you're not getting oil up there. Have it checked out quickly before the engine locks down if it's due to oil not being pumped correctly. A loose rocker is just as bad. Dumb question, But have you checked the oil level?

Does your cars check engine light come on or off at all? If you had a misfire, it would trip the check engine light. Often a misfire is caused by a bad ignition module, and not just one sparkplug, but the only way to see what your car is doing is to have it scanned to see if anything is stored in the memory. Often , auto parts stores will do this for free, and that way you might have a clue to what is going on under the hood!

I have a bmw 318ci 2002 model which keeps intermitently cutting out when it cuts out the battery light cums on andthe redhandbrake light and red traction light go yellowthis can happen evey 2miles 2 days...
Hey, sounds like a vacum leak - common on those engines. when engine is on idle open boonet and lissten out for any whoosing noises near the rear of engine. There is a breather there that can be changed ( black round ) or check the pipes that connect to it coming from rocker cover for damage.

Engine rattle noise
Have you checked your oil? Sounds like you may have run it way low, the loud metallic noise is probably metal on metal contact inside your engine, add oil and it that fixes it, count yourself lucky, if not need to take it to a shop.

Check under the hood and inspect the valve cover gasket. If it's bad it would explain why you don't see any leaks on the ground because it's probably burning off on the manifold. This ticking you're hearing is a lack of lubrication to the rocker arms. Apart from the valve cover gasket, you should get under the car and inspect the oil pan and oil filter for seepage. Best of luck on your problem.

Screeching sound at the back of engine at the top of head
Check all the bolts and fastenings for the heat shrouds around the exhaust manifold to make sure they are there (and firm). If you can undo them without snapping them, take the shrouds off to check for gravel trapped in that area. It could also be a failing cat converter, but a lot less likely. My next step would be to remove the rocker cover and have a look......
