5 Beeps when key in ignition but won't start

I've got a 1.9TDI diesel Alhambra which was starting and driving lovely until just over a week ago, we discovered a leak which we promptly fixed and since then it won't start. We've replaced relay 109 and the battery but still won't fire up. When you put the key in the ignition and turn it there are 5 beeps. Any ideas, I don't have the key with the chip

When you said you do not have the key with the chip, you mean that the car is immobilizer equipped? If it is surely you need the chip fitted key to start and run, otherwise you will not manage to start and surely you will cause loss of programming. Ask from an expert to help you and do not please try it on your own .

Another question I have is : when you said you had a leak and promptly fixed it,what leak you mean? Is it Diesel leak? If it is diesel leak, you must bleed the system first as air goes into the system and do not allow the clean fuel to without air bubbles to get into the injectors.

Hi, the diesel leak was the end cap on the end of the diesel spill of pipes, we have cracked the injectors and managed to get fuel back through but still won't start, we think it could now be immobiliser. When I say the key I have doesn't have the chip, what I meant is that I don't have the remote key only the key that I would call the spare normally. It just seemed really odd as it started fine on Christmas Eve (when the problem was discovered) and wouldn't start on Christmas Day and hasn't started since.

Thank you for your advice, had a mechanic out today to look at it and it turns out a sensor on injector 3 needed an electrical pulse sent through it to start working again, it took him less than 10 mins

I am leaning to timing belt problem if the belt broke and the valve is closed on that cly you would have compression there. If the ecm was the cause you would not have spark.

SOURCE: My car was running, then

Hi,
You need to have the cam angle and crankshaft position sensors checked. These are 2 parts which enable the ignition system to fire. If these are ok then check that the rotor in the distributor is turning when you crank the engine.
If it is not turning then you have a cambelt/chain or gear problem which you will need to repair before it will start again.
Hope this helped.
Thanks
Jason

SOURCE: 1998 Honda Accord replaced ignition

Replace the ignition switch that screws onto the back of the lock cylinder, they were a very common problem and actually subject to a recall. You could phone a nearby honda dealership with your VIN number and they may replace it for free.

Welcome to Fixya

Common problem for this are battery problem or loose battery terminal connection. Check also the connection of the battery going to the starter or the starter solenoid is stucked. If all connections are ok. Check to see if its the starter. Get a hammer or equivilent and find the starter. Hit it firmly a couple of times, not a full on swing just a nice strong tap. Try to hit harder if it doesn't work on the 1st try. Just don't break anything. If the car start after doing this, then its DEFINITELY your starter... the solenoid is stuck.

I removed the battery and now the car won't start

'I disconnected the car battery/changed the car battery and now my car won't start'

Another common question on Fixya.
You've done nothing wrong. It's simply that the immobiliser doesn't recognise the key.

Put the key into the ignition. Turn the ignition on. Press the LOCK button twice on your remote. Wait 1 minute.

Turn the ignition off and press the UNLOCK button on the remote a couple of times. This will disarm the immobiliser.

The key should be recognised and your vehicle will start.

Stuck eldorado key in DTS ignition now car won't start

Make sure your steering wheel isn't locked. Sometimes a key won't turn until you jiggle the wheel while trying to turn the key.

Ran out of diesel now vehicle won't start

This is not unusual on a diesel. What happens is there is air in the system. If this vehicle has an electric fuel pump loosen line where fuel enters injection pump then turn ignition key to the on position and watch for fuel to appear and then quickly tighten line before turning off key. Then try to start. If does not have electric fuel pump will need a second person. One will loosen line and watch while other cranks vehicle until you get fuel and tighten line before the other person releases ignition switch unless vehicle starts first. If that doesn't do the job do this where line hooks onto each injector. Probably will not have to do this to all injectors but could run rough until all the air gets out of everything. I have farmed with diesel tractor for 25 years and dad I drove the gm vehicles with the 5.7. You normally don't start a diesel without bleeding the air out of the lines although some will self bleed most won't. Hope this does the trick.

Cranks and then goes dead

First check your fuel pressure it should be 41-47 psi with key on and engine off if its below 32 psi replace the fuel pump and filter. If fuel pump checks out to be good then take ignition switch out and check for burned ignition switch wires and worn ignition key tumblers and ignition lock cylinder. These cars are known for faulty ignition switches and ignition lock cylinders.Ignition switch gets to hot then it won't start until it cools off.

1995 geo tracker won't start. I've replaced everything except the ignition switch. It used to click when i turn the key, now it won't even click.

DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY AND RECONNECT, THIS SHOULD RESET THE BRAIN.

ALSO...WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY, LISTEN TO HEAR IF YOU CAN HEAR THE FUEL PUMP COME ON...IF NOT, GUESS WHAT? HOPEFULLY NOT!... BUT,YOU MAY NEED TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP, IF YOU CAN'T HEAR IT WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY, AFTER YOU'VE RESET THE BATTERY!

HOPE THIS HELPS!

My 1999 Buick Park Ave started hesitating and the CEL would flash. I would back off the accelerator and it would smooth out and the light would go off. About a month ago the car died while I was driving it...

Have you tried the reset method? Turn key to the ON position and leave it there for 10 minutes, or until the security light goes off. Then turn key to off, and back to on and start-see if it starts after letting it sit for a few minutes like that with the key in the on position.
